Is Ryan’s Budget Plan Headed in the Right Direction?

by | 4:56 am, March 21, 2012

History is a guide only for those who know it. Progressives, I’m persuaded, know it but ignore it and therefore are without excuse. Cutting taxes always increases freedom and has a nice side benefit: increasing revenues to the government without raising tax brackets. Not that the prime purpose of stimulating the economy is for the government to reap more revenues, you understand!

Allen Stanford’s Ponzi Scheme a Study on Regulatory Capture

by | 3:19 pm, March 9, 2012

The reason this guy got away with this for so long is that he was simply buying off people to look the other way. Those people sold out in hopes that Stanford would hire them once they left the regulatory agency. Sweet deal for everyone except Stanford’s customers who assumed, since the regulators were quiet, that everything was A-OK.

Modest Temporary Free Speech Victory in Cigarette Pack Pictures Ruling

by | 1:31 pm, March 3, 2012

This isn’t a mistake or an error in judgment. The “experts” in government agencies really do think they are smarter than we are – the rubes, the country class – and therefore arrogate unto themselves the job of telling us what to do. The word “arrogance” comes from “arrogate.” Appropriate, don’t you think?

Appeals Court Refuses to Rule on Laptop Encryption Case

by | 12:36 pm, March 1, 2012

Judges are lawyers and as such they know how to manipulate the law and pass the buck all the while sounding erudite and persuasive. Unfortunately for Ramona it’s highly likely that she’ll be proven guilty before she has a chance to be proven innocent. What a strange world.

Thousands of Criminal Attacks Thwarted by Armed Citizens

by | 5:24 pm, February 27, 2012

This is just the sort of story that confirms that some gun-controllers have little or no interest in the proven effectiveness of citizens in defending themselves. For them such information is completely beside the point. Private ownership of guns is an obstacle towards the establishment of a dictatorship. This Cato study is not for intended for them.

How Leviathan Works: FDA to Regulate Medical Apps

by | 2:50 pm, February 13, 2012

The underlying argument for government regulation is that regulation to protect consumer safety can’t be done in the private sector. After all, left by itself, free enterprise will “run wild.” Little if anything is ever heard about how the free market can provide its own regulation to protect consumer safety through private institutions like Underwriters Laboratory.

Courts and Dept of Justice Agree: Videotaping Police is OK

by | 12:36 pm, February 13, 2012

The pen is mightier than the sword. And so, it appears, is the cellphone. The right to video tape government officials’ bad behavior has always been a citizen’s right. Now the courts and, amazingly, the Department of Justice as well, are recognizing and confirming the right. It’s showtime!

Regulatory Agencies Continue to Slow the Economy

by | 11:39 am, February 9, 2012

It is any wonder that the economy cannot recover? Each regulation is like a 10-pound weight in the saddle bags of a race horse. Not only will they slow the horse down, in sufficient number they will kill the horse.
