The Coming Reset in State Government – An Opportunity for Smaller Government?
by T.L. James | 8:07 pm, September 6, 2009
Over at the Wall Street Journal, Indiana governor Mitch Daniels issues a warning on state finances – one our own Bill Ritter ought to heed before we end up as the square version of California: The “progressive” states that built their enormous public burdens by soaking the wealthy will hit the wall first and hardest. California, which [...]
Government Orders Business Around. Newspaper Unconcerned.
by TJ Wihera | 3:28 pm, May 7, 2009
The Washington Post is reporting that the federal government has ordered the financing arm of GM to raise 13 billion dollars.
Interestingly, the paper seems to be taking the whole “federal government orders business” aspect in stride, instead choosing to focus on the the mechanics of the process.
Anti-Bank, Anti-Capitalism “New Way Forward” Rally Fizzles
by T.L. James | 9:42 pm, April 11, 2009
In answer to (or as an attempt to steal the thunder of) this Wednesday’s nationwide Tea Party rallies, the left threw together their own rallies against banks, which were held today across the country. PPC attended the rally in Denver on the west steps of the capitol building – and was pretty unimpressed. (There was also a [...]
South Park offers best illustration of Economy Crash yet
by Ikonoclast | 12:43 am, March 31, 2009
The most recent episode (original air date: 25 March 2009) of the iconic television comedy South Park brilliantly skewers the current financial crash and economic meltdown – and the absurd reactions of much of the public (and even more so the absurdity of the Obama government policy measures). The episode brilliantly lampoons bank failures, individual [...]
“The Magic Bus” – or, how DID those protesters appear at AIG homes?
by Ikonoclast | 12:42 am, March 25, 2009
Amid the many lowlights of the frenzied reaction to the “news” that insurance giant AIG, recipient of some $170 billion in bailout money, paid out some $165 million (i.e. less than 1% of the bailout) in bonuses to several employees was a particularly pathetically populist pandering publicity stunt this last weekend (Saturday, March 22nd). According [...]
The Power of “Pull” (or, “Countrywide is on your side” – if you’re a politician with clout)
by The Peripatetic Pundit | 3:30 pm, March 20, 2009
Ayn Rand’s novel “Atlas Shrugged” popularized the concept of “pull” – referring to those who attempt to achieve success not through their own effort, talent, or initiative, but by currying favor with politicians. Numerous observers have noted the prescience of Rand’s vision, particularly in recent months, with many commenting that we seem to be in [...]
Naming Names in the Bailout Bonus Money “Scandal”
by Ikonoclast | 2:44 pm, March 19, 2009
The thuggish behavior of the Democratic Congressional “leadership” has been on prominent display this week. First, Senator “shameless” Chuck Schumer’s (D-NY) grandstanding and haranguing AIG executives on contractually obligated bonuses paid to their employees – ending with with a bald-faced threat to the AIG employees to cough it up – “or we will do it [...]
Your Orwell Moment of the Day
by T.L. James | 9:44 pm, January 28, 2009
It was a source of great satisfaction to him, he said–and, he was sure, to all others present–to feel that a long period of mistrust and misunderstanding had now come to an end. There had been a time–not that he, or any of the present company, had shared such sentiments–but there had been a [...]
Governor Granholm Goes Gulfstream
by T.L. James | 9:42 pm, December 25, 2008
I’m spending the holidays in Colorado’s Democrat-led future, aka Michigan, home of the Big Three auto-making pension companies and an increasingly cash-starved state government. You might have heard of Michigan’s problems and those of its auto-making pension companies in the recent maneuvering in DC over the federal taxpayer bailout of the UAW. You might even [...]
