Honeymoon’s Over

Category: Colorado, HumorT.L. James @ 9:11 pm

Actually, for thin-skinned local “progressive” talk show host Jay Marvin, it sounds like it was over before it began, thanks to a snobby Mark Udall being insufficiently appreciative of Marvin’s free campaign efforts on his behalf:

The last draw came election night. Udall had won and beaten Bob Schaffer. I was broadcasting live from the Democratic ballroom at a downtown hotel. My producer, John Turk, went up to Udall’s press secretary Taylor West to ask for in interview. We were told no. Now keep in mind I had given this guy money, had pitched for him on the air, and had even carried water for him when some of his votes got him into trouble with his core.[emphasis mine]

Where were the TV stations when the election campaign was going on? Did they even lift a finger to help this guy.

The worst part of it was after all we gad done for Mark Udall on the air, John Turk was treated like s***, he was only doing his job–and we were denied an interview with the newly elected Senator. It was only after I got in a yelling match with Udall’s campaign manager were we granted a short, tense live interview on the air.

There were many more incidents of the Udall minions walking all over Mary and myself.

I’m not going to go into the rest here. Let’s just say Udall is a phony. He is cold, and has a well crafted image that covers who he really is. And let me also say I will never have this man on my show again as long as I’m on the air in this market.

How perceptive.

I can only suffer Jay Marvin for very short and widely spaced intervals. But I’m sure that if I were a regular member of his audience I wouldn’t much appreciate being told now, a month after the election, that he was merely “carrying water” for a candidate he loathed and didn’t believe in, and covering up the guy’s political liabilities in order to keep the more left-leaning members of the audience placated and willing to vote for him. In essence, he was trying to fool the audience just long enough to get “the Democrat” elected…and now has the poor taste to bluntly state as much.

Since I’m not a member of his regular audience (thank heavens) I can laugh about it instead. Let the backstabbing begin…

ADDENDUM: This part of Marvin’s post also caught my eye, as an illustration of how different Mark Udall and Bob Schaffer are as men:

What she found in the campaign HQ was not pretty site. Interns–for many of them it was their first job–were treated with disrespect and arrogance. Several times Mary was told to out and out lie to people on the phones…

Udall is a cold removed man. Here’s an example. He would come to the Denver campaign office be led down a set of stairs to an office where the door would be shut and he’d make his pitch calls for money.

The whole time Mary was there he never once stopped to thank or say hello to any of the kids busting their butts on his behalf.

I happened to stop by the Schaffer call center in Arvada at around 3pm on election day, and discovered Bob Schaffer himself making a visit on his rounds that day through his campaign offices. He was cheerfully thanking the volunteers, chatting with them here and there as he made his way through the room, addressing many of them by name (apparently from memory). He even took the time to record with me an impromptu interview for PPC…and then to re-record it when I discovered the camera had malfunctioned (which it also did the second time around, I discovered later).

In hindsight, I had a sense after talking with Bob that he already knew he wasn’t going to win the election…but there he was anyway, sharing his time on election day with the volunteers, fuelling their optimism, giving them encouragement, and showing them that their contributions of time and effort to his campaign were appreciated. That’s just the way Bob Schaffer is — friendly, engaged, and gregarious.

Of course, while such qualities are great to have, it’s even more important that someone running for office have strong character and sound political principles. It’s too bad that not enough Coloradans could see that Bob Schaffer had all three. Unlike Jay Marvin, we didn’t have to lie about how good our candidate was.

Sheeple Watch #3: Bling We Can Believe In!

Category: Humor, Sheeple, obamaT.L. James @ 8:56 pm

Now, if a Republican were to do this, there would be no end to the howls of rage over such inappropriate “conspicuous consumption” in a Dickensian time of want, handwringing editorials on how it exposes the hypocrisy of the political class — public servants all! — and their plutocratic tendencies, and rants about how that money would have — should have — been better spent by donating it to charity instead. Not to mention calls for ethics investigations…that money had to come from somewhere, you know. And the detailed calculations from the green camp of the opportunity cost of that one piece of jewelry, and how many tons of harmful pollutants could have been prevented from being belched into the atmosphere had the metal not been diverted from a more beneficial use - in a catalytic converter.

And don’t forget the vague but persistent innuendo about the racist overtones implicit in the use of a “blood metal” like rhodium. Rhodium — as in Cecil Rhodes.  Yes, that one.

But since it’s the Messiah, well…look! Sparkly shiny things! How romantic! What a wonderful, thoughtful, caring husband He is!

Honestly, I don’t much care how he chooses to spend his own money. What amuses me about this is the hypocrisy involved…you just know that around the corner, there is a lecture coming from the Messiah or his wife about the evils of “excessive” wealth, the shamefulness of conspicuous consumption, and/or the frivolousness of showy luxuries, all things which ought to be sacrificed in this time of national hardship as a sign of solidarity with the jobless and hungry or what-have-you. Preferably via the medium of taxation and redistribution — after all, what good is charity if it’s voluntary?

† — Okay, okay, so the metal isn’t actually named after him, but you know the sillier “postmodernist” critics and chomskybats would make the connection anyway, based on nothing more than the trivial homonymy.

Sheeple Watch #1: Obama Day!

Category: Humor, Sheeple, obamaT.L. James @ 1:32 pm

Not even a week since the guy was elected, and already some Øbama supporters are looking to establish a holiday in his honor:

Plans are being made to promote a national holiday for Barack Obama, who will become the nation’s 44th president when he takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

“Yes We Can” planning rallies will be at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. every Tuesday at the downtown McDonald’s restaurant, 1100 Kansas Ave., until Jan. 13. The goals are to secure a national holiday in Obama’s honor, to organize celebrations around his inauguration and to celebrate the 200th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln, who was born on Feb. 12 1809.

Good grief, people. Why don’t we just get it over with and declare him a living god instead of President?

Seriously, I wonder how long it will be before the Øbama worshippers organize a movement to rescind the 22nd Amendment. After all, why should a President as wonderful and transforming as Barack Øbama be limited to only two terms?

Sunday Service at the Church of Obamatology

Category: Humorrandomridge @ 6:31 pm

Here’s one tiny sampling of the cult worship of Barack Obama that drives me so nuts:

Say what you will about what a lousy candidate the GOP pushed on us this year as an alternative - and I do, frequently - but for all his many faults nobody actually worships McCain.

Hillary Rallies the PUMAs for Obama

Category: Humor, PPCT.L. James @ 1:14 pm

It took a LOT longer to put this together than I thought it would, and it’s still a little rough, but here’s the footage from the Hillary rally in Aurora on Friday afternoon…with some (hopefully) funny additions:

Calling AirStrip One…

Category: Humor, PPC, Philosophyeileen @ 6:55 pm

Let’s say you list an item on eBay as a high-end cell phone in good condition, asking price in the $300 range.  And someone buys it.  But you send him a cracked and barely working phone that isn’t the same model he paid for.  So he writes some negative feedback.  What do you do?

A. Resolve to become a more honest eBusinessman.

B.  Refund his money and hope he goes away.

C. Sue him for libel when he won’t delete his feedback. Continue reading “Calling AirStrip One…”

Hillary Rally - In Photos!

Category: Humor, PPCrandomridge @ 12:58 pm

Let’s try something new here: a slideshow of my photos and snarky comments about yesterday’s Hillary rally for Obama (open fullscreen and click “info on” to see the captions).

I disagree with T.L., though, it wasn’t that the crowd felt like Democrat pod people, it was more like Hillary had herself been replaced by an Obama pod person. If she’s as bitter and resentful about having the nomination yanked from her by Obama’s machine and the Democrat party itself, she sure hides it well. Of course, putting on a veneer of enthusiasm and admiration for someone you loathe is probably one of those skills you develop pretty quick as a sociopath Washington insider.

Hillary! Does Aurora

Category: Humor, PPCT.L. James @ 8:45 pm

So, what did it feel like to be the lone conservative in a sea of PUMAs and Ø-bots at the Hillary Clinton rally this afternoon in Aurora? Well, let’s just say that I was a little on edge, expecting something like this to happen to me at any moment:

Thank goodness the crowd was too preoccupied with cheering her words without listening to them to pay any attention to me (aside from the yappy woman behind me who kept complaining about not being able to see…hey, it’s not my fault I’m 6′2″, lady - love me the way I am).

I’ll have the exclusive Peoples Press Collective video up shortly, once I’ve had the chance to clip it down to just the juicy bits of pandering and blatant lying.

One thing I didn’t get on video, unfortunately, was Diana Degette’s introduction of Eddie Perlmutter (yes, they really started that low on the totem pole), in which she inadvertently gaffed and called him “Congresswoman Perlmutter”…and then attempted to recover by saying that Eddie himself was just complaining to her that people call him “Congresswoman” a lot. {snicker}
