“Another Republican Rally for Glorious Victory”

The proggies over at Colorado Pols are having a little fun with yesterday’s ill-attended “Securing Our American Dream” rally – Another Republican Rally for Glorious Victory!
It’s true that the “dozen” attendees it’s claimed attended the rally aren’t shown in one photo, but we’ll give eyewitnesses the benefit of the doubt since there seem to be almost a dozen people on the stage! And you’d hate to think there were more speakers at the rally than rallygoers.
I think calling the crowd a ‘dozen attendees’ is in fact downplaying it a bit. By my estimate, there may have been two dozen. Possibly three!
And that’s not figuring in the speakers…but it may be including a dozen or so people manning tables or working the “crowd” for signatures and whatnot.
Now folks, when we post these photos, it seems there is always a critic out there who accuses us (or the person who took them) of intentionally excluding some huge crowd just out of the field of view.
This gave me a little chuckle – normally, when I attend a rally for either side, I’ll take a couple wide-angle shots throughout the event to honestly characterize the size of the crowd. I can’t fault the Pols reporter for not doing this, since I didn’t either – there really was no point. There simply weren’t enough people there to go through the hassle of changing lenses for a crowd shot.
There were, however, lots more people at this rally than at the Obama for America rally at a Sak ‘n Save (the Kum & Go and In-’n-Out must have already been booked) in Reno, Nevada featuring one-time cause celebre Sandra Fluke. Just to, you know, put into perspective what a truly pathetic turnout actually looks like.
Last weekend, we posted photos from a Colorado Hispanic Republicans rally on the west steps of the Colorado state capitol. Headlined by such luminaries as Jon Caldara of the Independence Institute and chairman Ryan Call of the Colorado Republican Party, the photos of the actual attendance to this “call to action” were more laughable than inspiring.
Note to folks on the right: this is why Michael and I have been telling you over the past year to stop putting on rallies. The novelty of big political rallies has worn off, and nobody shows up anymore just because you put up a podium and some flags on the Capitol steps. Try something new.
As for the folks on the left, well, I can understand their wanting to lampoon such piddling turnout – after all, we’ve been doing it to them since their side’s rally activity plunged precipitously after Obama’s election in 2008. Remember this one? Or this one? How about this one?
Yeah. I suspect the rally thing has outlived its usefulness on both sides. It’s time to come up with something new.
