‘Don’t invite the Obama’s to your wedding; they’ll liable to make off with the gravy boat’, or, ‘May we all be blessed graceless enemies’

Political junkie that you are (c’mon, you’re reading this, right?), the odds are you saw the latest gaffe in the President’s re-election campaign.  He know wants engaged couples to make their wedding registries into pleas to fund the Obama ’12 efforts.

This is so obviously a disastrous misstep that it seems Mr. Obama is the only person who thought it would be a good idea.  At any rate, it’s not like the world needs any more evidence that this is man who cannot conceive of anything – including the nuptials of complete strangers – not being all about him.  That narcissism colors his entire administration.  There seems to be nothing he does not want to control, and nothing he does not want to turn into an appendage of his personality cult.

However, I find a very mild relief in Barack Obama’s parade of ‘what-on-were-you-thinking’ moments.  To refresh, in great brevity, he tried to set up an e-mail, flag-at-whitehouse-dot-gov, where Americans would snitch on one another whenever anybody said anything against Obama, and, when that failed spectacularly, simply waited a few years and tried it again.  He encouraged Americans to neglect their own mothers on Mother’s Day in order to dial up the White House and gush about Michelle.  To be honest, she repays the favor, pointedly reminding us all whenever it gets close to her husband’s birthday, so that we might all pay homage.

The point is, the First Couple lead an almost inconceivably isolated life, where a near-total lack of manners and social GPS has set in.  Such uninformed pig-ignorance looks like a throwback to Versailles in 1788 or The Winter Palace in 1916; it does not suggest a personable and technology savvy modern-man dedicated to listening to his constituents.

That his asinine ideas makes it into practice indicates something that, for those of us who sooner draw a name out of a hat than return Obama to power this November, is rather good news.

He hasn’t got anyone to tell him these successive bids to adorn himself are foolish and ripe for mockery.  Have his clear-headed supporters given up?  Does he refuse to listen to less swollen heads than his own?  Is the entire Presidential team gone tone deaf?  Does it really matter so long as he keeps stumbling?

This is also a heartwarming sign of Obama’s fundraising difficulties.

However, it isn’t all good news.  This man’s conduct tells us a great deal about his feelings for the average American.  Not once has he apologized for any of these stunts and he certainly has not learned a damn thing.  In a second term, when he no longer has a re-election to think about, how will we all fare?
