Bradford and Challengers Speak at Mesa County GOP Convention

All three candidates running for House District 54, the seat currently held by the embattled Laura Bradford, spoke to over 300 delegates at the Mesa County Republican Convention on Saturday March 24th in Grand Junction.
Rep. Bradford, the incumbant who earlier this year became embroiled in a controversy involving a traffic stop that culminated in a nearly month-long saga — which put the Colorado House Republican’s one-seat majority in question as she decided whether to remain with the party or not — spoke first, stressing her conservative credentials and accomplishments in the House. She finished her statment with a comment on “standing up to Republicans, even, when they are wrong”, alluding, it was widely presumed, to her not-so-secret ongoing contentions with the House leadership.
Vinyard owner John “Rusty” Price, the first challenger to announce his candidacy for the seat, spoke next in a fairly low-key speech which did not reference Rep. Bradford. Price instead focused on his intent to be a servant of the residents of HD54.
The latest entrant into the scrum, Fruita police officer and former Republican activist Jared Wright, said that the District needed “more focus, fewer distactions and less intra-party bickering”. He also outlined his top three priorities as being the economy, energy and education.
The House District 54 assembly will be held next Saturday, March 31st in Clifton. It is traditionally held on a different day from the County Convention as the district includes parts of Delta County.
