Romney Up in Latest PPP Poll, Santorum In Second; Gingrich Falters

If Public Policy Polling’s latest poll in the GOP Presidential caucus holds up on Tuesday, the former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will once again win with Colorado’s caucus-going Republicans, 40 to 26 percent over former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who led in the PPP poll in December by 19 points over Romney, has dropped to third, with 18 percent, followed by Rep. Ron Paul, with 12 percent.
In 2008, Romney romped with more than 60 percent of the vote, besting runner-up Sen. John McCain by more than 40 points.
Gingrich’s drop in support mirrors his 33 point decline in favorability, while Santorum’s surge closely tracks not only a positive favorability, but an edge over Romney among self-described Tea Party (35-34), Evangelical (37-30), and “very conservative” voters (38-29).
There is a considerable amount of volatility to the the poll, with PPP noting that 33 percent of those surveyed saying they could change their minds between the time of the poll and Tuesday, February 7. However, with those that are more firmly committed, Romney holds a 45 to 25 advantage over his second place rival, and also possesses large leads among seniors (43 to 23) and “somewhat conservative” Republican voters (51 to 19) over Santorum.
Updates as we pour through the crosstabs. The poll was conducted February 4, with 527 likely Republican caucus voters.

Gov. Romney appears to be the beneficiary of a ‘bandwagon’ effect. The more frquent the wins…even though small in number….the greater the liklihood of winning again.
I urge all conservatives to look again at Rick Santorum. The true conservative has been right there all along.
