ConLaw 101 for the Post Editorial Board
by Rob Natelson | 12:12 pm, September 30, 2010
The legal whizzes on the editorial board of the Denver Post have spoken: Amendment 63, the Right to Health Care Choice Initiative, is bad because Obama Care is constitutional. Today’s editorial reads:
[W]e believe [Obama Care] will survive legal challenges and will be found to be constitutional. The Constitution provides Congress authority to impose an [...]

Rick Hess Article Makes Case for Expanding Frontiers in School Reform
by Eddie | 11:08 am, September 30, 2010
Today I don’t have a lot to say, but am hoping my school choice and market-reform supporting friends take a dive into Rick Hess’s new National Affairs piece titled “Does School Choice Work?” While Dr. Jay Greene is correct that we should be optimistic over the progress made thus far in building support for school [...]
More Serious Doubts Raised by Legal Complaint Against Bernie Buescher
by Ben DeGrow | 6:42 am, September 30, 2010
As Election Day draws closer, appointed Democrat Secretary of State Bernie Buescher can’t be feeling too good. He has been nagged by his office’s failure to ensure that overseas military personnel have timely ballot access, perhaps affected by his long hours away from the office. Then yesterday comes the painful, ironic news of a campaign [...]
Denver Post blogs Democrat propaganda (Dewey Beats Truman!)
by Rossputin | 6:34 am, September 30, 2010
In a truly pathetic example of “reporting”, Denver Post writer Michael Booth suggests that a poll of the Colorado Senate race done by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee merits equal weight with a poll done by Rasmussen Reports.
Booth says “Sen. Michael Bennet could take some good news from a new Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee poll, while Ken Buck might prefer to watch himself pull away in the new Rasmussen survey.”
This is as laughable as Betsy Markey putting out a poll showing her tied with Cory Gardner. As I said in an e-mail response to her campaign, “do you really think anyone believes this junk?” The same should be asked of Michael Booth who probably also still believes that Dewey will beat Truman. (Well, maybe not, since he’s obviously a Democrat cheerleader first and a gullible reporter second.)
Booth puts in his first major paragraph some worthless tripe about how the DSCC poll shows more “warm fuzzy” feelings about Michael Bennet, as if that has anything to do with anything.
And of course, Booth adds the usual leftist caveat about Rasmussen, saying that “Democrats frequently dispute (it) because of alleged sampling bias.”
Actually, what Rasmussen does is sample likely voters rather than just registered voters or, even worse, all adults. That’s part of the reason Rasmussen has been one of the most reliable pollsters throughout the last several elections. Of course, the methodology and specific questions in the Democrats’ poll are not disclosed.
If that’s not bad enough, Booth includes a link to the Wikipedia entry on Rasmussen suggesting readers read “some history on Rasmussen and criticism of its methods.” Unbelievable. Is he paid by the Denver Post or the DSCC? (Some might wonder whether there’s any significant difference between the two in any case, though I have to say I’m a fan of Vince Carroll, David Harsanyi, Karen Crummy, and Lynn Bartels…)
As long as Booth is sending us to Wikipedia, check out this bit from that very entry:
Slate Magazine and The Wall Street Journal reported that Rasmussen Reports was one of the most accurate polling firms for the 2004 United States presidential election and 2006 United States general elections. In 2004 Slate magazine “publicly doubted and privately derided” Rasmussen’s use of recorded voices in electoral polls. However, after the election, they concluded that Rasmussen’s polls were among the most accurate in the 2004 presidential election. According to Politico, Rasmussen’s 2008 presidential-election polls “closely mirrored the election’s outcome.”
Booth’s note on these two polls, pumping up a poll done by a political party and denigrating one done by the country’s most reliable pollster (at least in recent years) isn’t news. It’s Democrat propaganda.
I wonder how Booth would spin the betting odds on this race giving Ken Buck more than a 70% chance of winning.
The DSCC poll shows Bennet ahead of Buck by 2 points. The Rasmussen poll shows Buck ahead by 8 points. The average is Buck by 3. So, I have a modest proposal for you, Mr. Booth: I’ll bet you $1,000 (or less, or just a beer) that Ken Buck beats Michael Bennet by more than 3%.
Game on?

With Dan Maes sinking to an all-time low of 15% in the latest polling from Fox News, it’s important to put in perspective just how low these numbers are. Here are a few fun statistics from public polling on other subjects:

Midweek Update – Clear The Bench Colorado makes national news (again!) as statewide judicial retention elections heat up
by CTBC Director | 11:45 pm, September 29, 2010
Following the deluge of news coverage of Clear The Bench Colorado in both statewide and national media over the weekend (with, of course, the notable exception of the Denver Post, stuck in “hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil” monkey-mode for the benefit of their $1.6M/year upstairs renters – when they’re not devolving [...]

Yes, Ken Buck is Ahead, DSCC Poll Isn’t Equivalent to Rasmussen (Not Close)
by Ben DeGrow | 6:05 pm, September 29, 2010
The Denver Post‘s Michael Booth is to be commended for his efforts: He’s working really hard to bolster the flagging campaign of appointed junior U.S. Senator Michael Bennet. Maybe it’s some sort of “Michael B” bond. Who knows? Though artificially inflating Bennet’s hopes in the end isn’t a terribly kind thing to do. Seriously, a [...]
Ed Perlmutter Casts Deciding Adjournment Vote Against Tax Relief
by Ben DeGrow | 5:35 pm, September 29, 2010
We already knew that my Congressman, liberal Democrat Ed Perlmutter, can twist himself into knots defending the Death Tax. But today Perlmutter went further, providing the decisive vote on the House floor (210-209) to adjourn Congress to keep from voting on extending the Bush tax cuts that would provide relief to my family and millions [...]

by Lesley Hollywood | 3:36 pm, September 29, 2010
You know the mid-term elections are in full swing when you can’t watch 5 minutes of television without being inundated with negative, false and misleading ads attacking US Senate candidate, Ken Buck – ads that are “approved by Senator Michael Bennet”. House passes motion to adjourn by a one-vote margin
by Rossputin | 1:33 pm, September 29, 2010
The Hill reports that the House of Representatives passed a motion to adjourn by the narrowest of margins, 210-209, after 39 Democrats voted with Republicans against the motion to adjourn and in essence in support of extending the Bush tax cuts for all tax brackets.
The Obama/Pelosi/Reid agenda is now officially on life support…

Ever heard of “palliative care?” Well, you might want to get familiar with the term. To the Editor:
In his op-ed on U.S -China trade relations and the allegedly undervalued renminbi, Stephen Roach notes that “President Obama, in a private meeting with Prime Minister Wen Jiabao, was reported to have made it very clear that the United States is, indeed, prepared to take forceful actions if China doesn’t budge on this critical issue” (“Cultivating the Chinese Consumer,” Sept. 29).
Translation of Mr. Obama’s threat to the Chinese Prime Minister: “If you don’t stop abusively taxing your citizens in order to grant unjust privileges to your favorite industries, we will more-abusively tax our citizens in order to grant unjust privileges to our favorite industries.”

Colorado Education Association vs. Health Care Choice (Amendment 63)
by Brian Schwartz | 5:00 am, September 29, 2010
