When the Left Attacks, Beware of What They Are Hiding

by | 7:32 am, August 7, 2010 | 10 Comments

When the left media and bloggers take what seems like minor story about our governor’s race nationwide, we can be confident that an issue they want to keep hidden has been exposed. Their attacks and attempted marginalization of Dan Maes for saying there is more to the Denver B-cycle story than meets the eye reached a fevered pitch the past few days.

I asked one of our 9-12 Project activists from Loveland to research the story more since no one was, not even the media.  Here is her detailed report with links for individuals and the media to do their own research/analysis:

There has been much made of Dan Maes’ comment regarding the B-Cycle program and a connection to the UN. The comment that seems to be generating so much attention is “These are very specific strategies that are dictated to us by this United Nations program that mayors have signed on to.” The response to this comment seems to suggest that either a) Maes does not understand the issues or b) there is some truth to what he said and those supporting ICLEI do not want the media to dig deeper.

The following is a brief overview of what I have found and hopefully after reading you will have enough information & the resources to reach your own conclusion regarding the B-Cycle Program, ICLEI and the United Nations.

The web-site for ICLEI has a common theme that global climate change is man-made and is a threat to our survival & humans must be made to change their lifestyles. The programs seem to focus on incrementally changing our way of life so as to save the planet from climate change and the collateral damage from loss of property and individual rights is a sacrifice all should make willingly.

The list of partners who contribute and collaborate with ICLEI does show a connection to the U.N. as several of the partners are various U.N. programs such as the U.N. Environmental Program, U.N. Human Settlements and U.N. Framework Convention for Climate Change. Some of the other partners are Clinton Climate Initiative, Climate Group and World Bank which are all groups who are committed to forcing restrictions on our lives all in the name of Global Climate Change.

The B-Cycle National web-site shows Chicago & Denver as the 2 major cities that have implemented the program & the partners consists of Humana, Trek Bicycle & Crispin Port+Bogusky. While I did not find a direct link between ICLEI and B-Cycle, there does seem to be a link via companies that are part of ICLEI. An example of this is Trek who is a founding partner of Global Alliance for Ecomobility – which is a program of ICLEI that is a: “cross-sectoral partnership for the integrated promotion of walking, cycling, wheeling & use of public transport to improve health & the urban environment, to mitigate global climate change.”

The B-Cycle program is based on “a shared belief that bicycles should be a vehicle for positive health & environmental change as well as an important part of a community’s transportation ecosystem.” I find it puzzling that transportation is referred to as an ecosystem as this seems to suggest that transportation is somehow an organic thing that is its own ecosystem. The definition of ecosystem is: –noun Ecology, a system formed by the interaction of a community of organisms with their environment.

My questions is: When did transportation become an ecosystem?

When looking at the web-site for the Denver bike program the list of sponsors includes a company called Gary-Williams Company which is an oil refinery company. Why would an oil company help with this program whose goal is to end dependency on cars which use oil products? An interesting side note about Sam Gary, founder of GWEC, is that he also started the Piton Foundation which this year has spent $1.5million on educating the “poor” in Denver on how to get as much as possible from the Earned Income Tax Credit.

I had previously posted information regarding the 2010 Future Cities Conference that ICLEI is doing in October and I have found a slide show from last year’s conference which I believe conveys what ICLEI stands for and what actions and changes the group wants to do. The slides that are most enlightening start with slide 33 which states “sprawl is dying & so public transportation can double, walking/biking can triple, car use reduce 50% & electric car use can INCREASE 50%.” Note: the price of the Chevy Volt electric car is $33,500 after a $7500 rebate funded by us the taxpayers.

I hope that after reading this you have a better sense of what ICLEI is and how through subtle connections the B-Cycle Program is connected to ICLEI and the U.N. There is still a great deal to learn about ICLEI and I believe that as more research is done (hopefully by the media as well) that the statement Dan Maes made was not that far off and is something the Governor should take seriously.

Nancy

    My questions is (sic)

“I believe that as more research is done (hopefully by the media as well) that the statement Dan Maes made was not that far off and is something the Governor should take seriously.”

After all that the only conclusion you reach is that you believe there may be something sinister in this project.

Faith-based politics makes for easily manipulated voters – just ask any evangelical voter who was totally screwed by the Bush administrations. If you have no facts to support your suspicions then you have to entertain the possibility that your bias going in is unfounded.

This isn’t really about some evil global-warming hoaxer’s cabal fueled by Fat Tire Belgium ale to overthrow the government of the USA with Schwinn bicycles. It’s about Dan Maes once again displaying his inexperience and, ultimately, his troubling lack of qualifications for the governor’s job.

Robert – never made any claims about Belgium so you must have some knowledge about this or your own bias. I never claimed it to be a sinister plot – it is though a collaborative effort with ICLEI and United Nations and other global climate groups to change our way of living here.

If you believe in man-made global climate change then you probably see nothing wrong with a organization thru various levels of govt imposing regulations on how we live.

If I want to spend my money a SUV, buy a huge home that is my choice. If someone else wants to ride bikes only, drive smart cars, live in high density condos that is their choice.

To mandate or regulate these choices is in conflict with principles of liberty & freedom that our Constitution guarantees.

    @robert.

I reject the premise that human activity has any effect on the climate outright. Human arrogance is at the core of the global warming hoax.

Every “solution” to the global warming hoax involves reducing ones standard of living and limiting their mobility & choices.

How, Robert, does this article reflect “It’s about Dan Maes once again displaying his inexperience and, ultimately, his troubling lack of qualifications for the governor’s job.”
How? Inexperience? Yeah, he speaks truth and isn’t a glib bs politician. How does it reflect on his qualifications? He said something “different”and the media hopped all over it. When Hickenlooper talked about, believe it was eliminating cars, to the Automobile Association or some auto group, he goofed and said something they didn’tlike. These guys are human. Today I met a woman who is very familiar with the above group and she said they are definitely something to be concerned about. They have profound effects on lifestyles. I don’t know enough to talk more about it, but do some research for yourself. Dan Maes is a very very bright man. Intelligent enough to be our next governor. There are a lot not too bright people in the world. Dan Maes definitely is not one of them.

    Robert:

Two links for you to peruse – then make up your mind.

An excerpt from the second: “a sustainability agenda which is arguably an amalgamation of socialism and extreme environmentalism brushed with anti-American, anti-capitalist overtones.”

I don’t know about you, but this is everything I fight against.

Quoting the eminently reasonable Don Johnson:

“Candidates who have shown themselves to be ethically challenged and incompetent as well as unpleasant get very few votes. That is how McInnis and Maes are seen in Colorado.”

While I think GOP Chair Dick Wadhams is vastly over-rated he does make a good point: between Maes, McInnis and Tancredo there’s plenty of reason for Hickenlooper to smile. If Maes is sincere about a political career his best strategy is damage control. I think he can weather his issues and position himself for a future run, but not by suggesting to bicycle-crazy Coloradans that they are pawns in a UN conspiracy.

Robert… it’s the UN, which means there is an agenda of some sort.

@robert. You’re off topic. Please explain the relationship that ICLEI has with the UN?

    Please enlighten us.

    @2amendment
    Want to be enlighten?
    From website: http://iclei.org/index.php?id=about
“Founded in 1990ICLEI was founded in 1990 as the ‘International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives’. The Council was established when more than 200 local governments from 43 countries convened at our inaugural conference, the World Congress of Local Governments for a Sustainable Future, at the United Nations in New York.”

    Then at this website:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICLEI
    “EcoMobility
ICLEI legally represents and hosts the Secretariat of the Global Alliance for EcoMobility. The Secretariat office is in Bonn, Germany. The Global Alliance for EcoMobility is an international non-profit partnership that works to promote EcoMobility and thus reduce citizens’ dependency on private motorized vehicles worldwide. It was founded by a group of leading global organizations on the occasion of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Bali in December 2007.”

Take it for what it is worth…!

The Denver Post needs to read this and write a retraction on the rash article they wrote on Maes. After reading this… I go back to my initial impression… that Maes was sharp and doing more research that I had thought he had been doing.
