Tom Tancredo says Dan Maes is 3rd party candidate and should quit

by | 7:39 am, August 12, 2010 | 7 Comments

Colorado gubernatorial candidate, Tom Tancredo, is quoted in the Grand Junction Sentinel as saying (apparently on 850 KHOW) that Republican candidate, Dan Maes, is the third party candidate and should consider quitting. This would let a GOP vacancy committee select another Republican to run against Tancredo and Obama Democrat John Hickenlooper. Or it would let Tancredo and Hickenlooper fight it out in a two-way race. Maes is not expected to quit even though very few Republicans are rallying to support him, according to the Denver Post. In an editorial, the Post reiterated its opinion that Maes is unfit to be governor. GOP state chairman Dick Wadhams told the Sentinel that the 19,000, or 4.8% of the 407,000 Republicans who voted in the Senate primary but not in the gubernatorial primary was "a significant" undervote. Tancredo agreed and told the Sentinel: “Four hundred thousand people were asking themselves, ‘Who’s the worst one?’” Tancredo said with a hearty laugh. “I’ve never seen a race like this in my life. I wonder how many people were holding their nose and voting. The 20,000 were holding it, but still the smell came through, and the stink was so bad they thought, ‘I can’t do it.’ “ LINKs:  GOP voter desertion fuels Tancredo. By Charles Ashby. I thought if the winner dropped out Tancredo would drop out too?

Wait, no, it was that if neither dropped out after being elected he would JOIN the race. Then before the primary was ever decided he jumped in anyway.

I don’t think Dan Maes’ groupies will ever get it. The guy won because fewer people voted against him than voted against McInnis.

Maes is getting tons of free negative publicity, and it won’t stop. He has been toast since January, and he’s burnt toast now.

    Tom,

You can’t be a third party candidate if you are the candidate of one of the two main parties. You are however a third party candidate if you are the American Constitution parties candidate.

As to Maes……unless he suddenly get more organized, better funded, and better at debating I’m going to have to for the 1st time ever admit that Donald is right. (Ouch that hurt)

And, according to the article in the DP today, Dan put foot in mouth again – this time saying his win meant he wouldn’t have to “pander to moderates.” Best to save those statements for the bloggers.

Don, he really needs that week-long intensive issues and mouth opening training you tweeted the other day that Mark Hillman suggested.

The national and state GOP leadership have themselves to thank for any perceived weakness in the winning candidate. They put up for Republican consideration an uninspiring establishment candidate with pro-choice and plagiarism skeletons in his closet. (Way to read your base guys!) It might have worked before the masses woke up to the idiotic antics of the Republican party (as it did with the oh-so-successful nomination of Pete Coors), but not any more.

If only Mike Coffman had not run for House, he was the one who could have run and beaten either Hickenlooper or Tancredo, or both….

I disagree, the GOP “establishment” is not responsible for Maes lack of any real expierence in governement, they haven’t made him a poor debater, and they certainly haven’t made his campaign disorganized.

He has to polish his act and FAST or he’s not going to beat Hickenlooper.

I do however agree that Mike Coffman would make a better candidate, but he’s running for the house, so Maes still has to pull it together.
