Open Letter to the Republican Party . . . Please Wake Up!!!!

This open letter from Tanne Blackburn to the Republican Party is a great illustration of the sentiment that is being expressed from all quarters… activists, experienced Republicans, candidates and conservatives across our state. It is past time for our “leadership” to wake up, represent their constituency and do their job.
We are totally missing the big picture of what is going on in our state and country right now. The Tea Party and other grass roots movements are made up of good, honest Americans who are fed up with the direction in which our country is going and with the politicians and policies that are leading us in that direction. I believe that they understand that not everyone, especially the established parties, will agree with all of their concerns but, at a minimum, they want us to listen. They, along with much of the general population, are frustrated that neither party seems to really listen to their concerns.
It is our good fortune that their thoughts and hopes for this country seem to be aligned more with the Republican ideas than with the Democrats; however, we must understand that they want what is best for our country regardless of party. In the recent primary season, we have been blessed that members of many grass roots organizations were energized and enthusiastically supported our candidate for the U.S. Senate and our candidate for Governor. In both cases, I think that they backed those candidates because they believe that they are the best choices for Colorado and that they will fight and vote for what will restore Colorado and America to the strong and vibrant country that we all want it to be. Both of our candidates honored the political process by going through the caucus, county and state assemblies, and then won hard-fought, close primary elections.
The message from this election and the grass roots movements is very clear. They want candidates who are unafraid to engage in public discourse about their positions, who are not the “Washington favorites” and who listen to the concerns of the people. Why is it that the people get it and the political operatives and special interests do not? Afraid to risk giving up perceived power or influence? Don’t want to let your backroom deals see the light of day?
The Republican voters of Colorado have spoken and spoken loud and clear. Their nominee for U.S. Senate is Ken Buck and for Governor is Dan Maes. That’s what close to 200,000 voters said in the primary election. If you don’t like it, get over it! Both Scott McInnis and Jane Norton were gracious losers and clearly recognize the need for our party to get behind the campaigns of our chosen candidates. It seems that everyone gets that except for some backroom “kingmakers” and Congressman Tom Tancredo.
Congressman Tancredo, while I appreciate all you have done for the Republican Party in the past, you risk undoing all of that good in the next three months. Now that the primaries and the agreed-to candidate selection processes are over, the blame for your ill-advised choice to now run for Governor does not rest with the State Chairman, the County Chairmen, or the Republican Party in general. In my opinion, YOU and only you made the choice to get into this race thinking that you know better than everyone else. This condescending, “I know better than you” attitude and tone deafness to what the people are saying severely threatens our ability to take back control of our state by unnaturally skewing the playing field in November in favor of the Democrat candidate for Governor and, for what is at stake in this State, that decision is unconscionable.
As a life-long Republican, I have personally worked very hard over the last several years to include and encourage all people to join the Republican Party. I have done that regardless of whether or not I agree with all of their ideas. The important thing to me is that on a fundamental level they see the difference between my party and the Democrat Party and they choose mine! They are all good people who want to see Republicans elected in November. I will redouble my efforts to get them all to contribute their time and their treasure to get Republican candidates elected in November; especially Dan Maes.

For the record, there are some whiny “did not get their way” bloggers who also do not get it. Maybe, in the next election cycle, those bloggers should get off their butt, take some actual real-world risk, and run for freakin office.

I have all of the respect for what you guys have said above. The only problem I do have is that Dan Maes is a Fraud! This man is purely not what he purports himself to be. Yes I believe Freda Poundstone! Yes I gave Dan Maes some money myself and listenned to claims that he made to Republicans at fund raising events. At the time, he fooled me – but I got over it! I hope some of you good folks figure it out too – sooner than later!

I hope this will finally help them get it! Thank you Tanne! We are lucky to have you on the team!

My latest blog entry says it all. They won’t get it and they can’t get it and it isn’t a new thing. There is no reason to expect that they ever will because they haven’t gotten it since Barry Goldwater’s campaign so why waste your breathe trying to talk to them?

I disagree with your comment about Tom Tancredo. He is the only Conservative in the race. Dan Maes is not conservative and Dan Maes is not the kind of man I want representing me. To say the things you say above to Tom Tancredo after the fights he has fought and the number of times he has taken rounds for the Republicans is not what I’d expect from someone in a leadership position here in Douglas County. The question is: Why aren’t you asking yourself why Tom feels so strongly about this issue and why so many are going with him? Take some of your own advice and listen.

I do believe that the republican party needs to get with the program. But so do we as conservatives, we have to stop eating our own and working against ourselves as well. Also Dan Maes didn’t win by any sort of landslide both at the assembly and the primary he edged oout Mcinnis by less than 1%. Sorry that’s not a mandate, and with regards to the primary it was more of a vote for the guy you disliked the least. I think our slate of Senate and Gov Candidates was weak this year, and we have no one to blame but ourselves for that. If you can elect weak candidates over what you guys claim were the party picks, think what we could have done with really AWESOME candidates.

No, it is time for the Republican Party to wake up. Time to wake up and realize you’re the reason Democrats keep coming back into power every few years.
Drop the party loyalty, replace it with patriotism and loyalty to the Constitution, and watch the Democrats hang themselves. What would Barry Obama even have to say if he couldn’t blame GWB and the Republican minority for something every day?
Party loyalty and patriotism are mutually exclusive.
