What a privilege to stand with over 500,000 Americans to Restore Honor and our nation under God on Saturday, August 28, 2010! How do I know over 500,000 were there? We FILLED the area around the Reflecting Pool between the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument which holds 250,000 people; we FILLED the field to stage right of the Reflecting Pool area which holds 300,000. We FILLED the area from the stage up all the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. It is one mile from the Lincoln Memorial to the Washington Monument and we FILLED most of the massive open space between them.
But, more than the numbers was the caliber and dedication of Americans that filled that space. Thousands were so committed to the cause and purpose of this rally that they spent the night before at the site to make sure they could be near the front. When 4 of us from Colorado arrived about 5:30 am we had to walk about 2 tenths of a mile to find a spot in the first section of the Reflecting Pool area before the first jumbo tron screen. Many of the people around us had been there all night.
As dawn approached, a man stood and called all within earshot of our area to join in prayer. Everyone became quite and listen respectfully to the relatively long prayer with a rousing “Amen” by thousands at the end. Then about 15-20 minutes later another gentleman lead thousands around the Reflecting Pool in the first section on each side in song, God Bless America. Later we learned that 12,000 clergy of all faiths who have committed to be the new “black-robed regiment” for restoring America were in and amongst us – I’m convinced one of them lead the prayer in our area and that others probably were doing the same throughout the throngs at sunrise.
Everyone around us was excited and friendly. As requested no one brought signs, just flags, mostly the “stars and stripes.” It was like a huge block party with attendees from every state – we were all family who aligned on principles, values and faith in God, not in people. (As always, we cleaned up after ourselves and upon leaving I overheard some park staff commenting that it did not look as though they we have to do much clean up as they had for days after the inauguration.) The program started with a young boy scout leading 100,000’s of people in the Pledge of Allegiance. Think of it - over 5 of the big college football stadiums filled with people saying the Pledge in unison. If that doesn’t move you, nothing will.
There were inspiring speakers, great Americans – both soldiers and civilians – to honor, beautiful music, and renewing prayers; but, you really should watch those yourself on C-SPAN reruns or Glenn Beck’s Insider Extreme. I cannot do them justice with mere words.
Lead by Glenn Beck, the multitudes of We the People pledged our lives, fortunes and sacred honor to the United States of America. When at the end we sang Amazing Grace played by bagpipes and raised our hands to the heavens, the feeling of unity, renewal and commitment fill us with pride, love and resolve to keep that pledge and risk all we have and are.
God bless us all and help us restore America as she should be so that all generations of Americans may live in freedom forever!

Add to your head count the many who watched every minute on Insider Extreme on Friday night and on C-Span all morning Saturday. Americans are starved for honor, integrity and American values — and in order for that to happen, we reach for faith inside ourselves, and demand it in those who run our government. Thanks to this author and to all who stand for these cherished truths. May God Bless our effort, as it is the only way!
