Survey: What Should Scott McInnis Do?

by | 8:35 am, July 14, 2010 | 7 Comments

Update: Upon further deliberation, I’ve decided to leave the survey open a little longer.

Today’s Denver Post editorial calls for Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis to drop out of the race due to “revelations of extensive plagiarism in work [he] claimed as his own.” While the Post has a quick Yes or No poll on its site to determine whether you agree with their editorial stance, I’m interested in a little more information. This morning I created a quick, 6-question, multiple choice survey to see what politically active and knowledgeable readers think should be done, and how it affects the state of the race.

Click here to take the survey

I will leave the survey open through tomorrow, Thursday, July 16, at 6 PM Mountain Time Friday, July 17, at 9 AM Mountain Time. As usual, participation in the survey is limited to one per IP address. Thank you for taking one minute to share your views.

He should quit the race and endorse Dan Maes. When it gets to the point of plagiarizing op-eds from the WaPo, it’s gotten pretty pathetic.

Is there a way to see the result of the poll?

He should drop out, and do it quickly. The next question is what will the State GOP do? Will they rally behind Maes, or just wring their hands and stay home on election day?

Hard numbers on the survey will come out after it closes. In the meantime, I will post some descriptive updates on Facebook from time to time.

    Open Letter to Scott McInnis

    Sir.
You have acknowledged that there was plagiarism involved with regard to the “Musings on Water” piece that you were purportedly paid $300,000 to write for Hasan Family Foundation.
You also acknowledged that you enlisted the services of Mr. Rolly Fisher to assist in writing the piece and that Mr. Fisher was solely responsible for the plagiarism. Mr . Fisher responded in the Glenwood Post Independent by saying “Scott is responsible for it”.
Over the past year there has been a ground swell of concerned Americans who have realized that many of those whom we have elected to represent us are not in tune with the “virtuosity” requirement that our founders required of them. You have clearly violated that requirement. This ground swell includes many Independents and disgruntled Democrats who are now supporting conservative Republican candidates. If the Republican Party in the state of Colorado supports you, then quite likely, those Independents and disgruntled Democrats who are looking for “real change” in November will be turned off. Should you survive the August 10th primary, which is doubtful, the Democratic candidate will most likely decimate you at the polls in November.
Colorado is facing many challenges and the Republican Party must focus on those issues and not distractions such as this.
Mr. McInnis, are you concerned with having a viable conservative candidate to lead our state out of these many crises or are you like many of those who have been elected to represent us? Are you only interested in self preservation and gain.
Mr. McInnis, man up, do the right thing, do your mea culpas to the Hasan Family Foundation and anyone else you have stained including Justice Hobbs and end your candidacy.

Laura said it first and best. That would be the honorable thing to do.

First of all, I would like to preface my comment in that I have supported Dan Maes from the beginning. What needs to be remembered here is WHO is doing the attacking on McInnis.
When it is Democrats in the Colorado legislature and the head of the state Democratic Party, all sorts of red flags should be raised. These people have no interest is anything except demonizing their opponent, whether it be Maes or McInnis. They will do anything to see that either candidate is shown in a bad light in the hopes that Independents will flock to Hickenlooper.
The Hasan Family is another matter, although I do not know if all family foundation members are Republicans, so that could be questioned as well. One needs to consider what is the motive and who is the person(s) behind the attempts to discredit a candidate. I don’t think McInnis should drop out of the race but I do believe this information could end up hurting him. Whether it translates to primary votes for Maes I do not know.
