RNC chair Michael Steele’s visit to Colorado GOP headquarters ‘closed press’
by Donald E. L. Johnson | 7:44 pm, July 7, 2010 | 3 Comments
Foot-in-mouth RNC chair Michael Steele not only has cancelled his scheduled appearance at the Aspen Institute meeting in Aspen. He's also shut the press out of his appearance at Colorado's GOP headquarters. Insecure politicians don't answer questions from the press or bloggers. And having put his foot in his mouth so many times, Steele isn't about to let the Colorado press and bloggers ask him why he has become an anti-Afghanistan war activist and whether he plans any marches on Washington in protest of the war. Sadly, Steele decided to go Nancy Pelosi on Barack Obama last week, wrongly charging that Afghanistan is "Obama's War." He apparently thinks that if Harry Reid can get away with stupidly declaring the war in Iraq lost, he can get away with trying to turn Afghanistan into another Vietnam and Iraq. He is, after all, an opportunistic politician. And like Pelosi and Reid, he should be retired.Comments

Afghanistan is “Obama’s war.” As commander of our armed forces he owns all the current wars. I think the chain of command is pretty clear here Don. Steele’s comments were the smartest thing he’s ever said. I agree that Steele is a bit of a tool but you can find better things to criticize him on than this. It must frustrate pro-war people that a socialist is upping the war ante even more than W could of. 300 billion borrowed dollars and thousands dead are all have to show for our longest war in history is …nothing. How many more years of destruction and death will it take for people to start questioning the continuing Afghan war? Or is that considered un-patriotic?

Right on, Chuck. The warmongering neocons can’t stand anyone who dares criticize the waste of lives and treasure in these losing interventions. I thought this was a libertarian blog. Why is Don Johnson even allowed to write his drivel here? May have to change my news feeds.

This war reminds me of the war on drugs. What’s the goal and what needs to be expended to achieve it? The pro-war side seems to think, “defeat is not acceptable” is some kind of answer to these two questions. Jane Norton in the second posted debate video seemed to say this.
I just rewatched the excellent miniseries about LBJ, McNamara and Vietnam, The Path to War. The debate within that administration sounded like a replication of today’s talks about Afghanistan
