How will Gov. John Hickenlooper run Colorado?

Now that disgraced Republican Gubernatorial Candidate Scott McInnis has made it clear that he plans to take the Colorado Republican party down with him, Governor-elect John Hickenlooper has to figure out how he'll run the state. For all practical purposes, Colorado politicians, voters and lobbyists will be treating Gov.-elect Hickenlooper as the governor. And we'll be watching everything he does and listening to everything he says with great interest. Meanwhile, Republican gubernatorial candidates, McInnis and Dan Maes will spend the next three or four months wondering where their "friends" went. They'll never understand why few if any political action committees, 527 groups or smart Republicans will be willing to waste money on their throw away campaigns. Nobody's going to throw good money after bad on these two losers. And that may make more difficult for other GOP candidates to raise money in Colorado over the rest of the campaign. Contributors may decide that McInnis, or maybe Maes, will be such a drag on the campaign that few if any Republicans will be worth supporting this year. This, of course, is a Republican year. But not in Colorado. LINKs: McInnis on plagiarism allegations: This is a non issue. 9News. h/t Complete Colorado.Comments

Johnson–have you put your money where your mouth is yet?? Which candidate have you maxed out with?? OR are you the kind that likes to sit on their pedestal with all talk and no action?

I haven’t contributed and probably won’t. I don’t want to encourage them.
I’m spending more than most contributors on my political blog and feel no need to give to individual candidates. In fact, I think giving to candidates is a waste of money because some trade association will give more and get the candidates’ ears because they give more than I do. So while my wife sometimes contributes, I don’t any more.

Why in the world would self-interested conservative and/or Republican donors give up on all other candidates because of shortcomings on the governor’s ticket? If anything it makes the need to capture one or more house of the state legislature that much more crucial. Why not give that extra money to state house and senate candidates in key races?

Ben, I agree with you. I’m talking about a possible reaction by Republicans who are discouraged by the incompetence they’re seeing in the GOP’s gubernatorial candidates. I also hope it doesn’t happen, but I think the McInnis/Maes situation could damage all GOP candidates.

In CO GOP Guv primary race, McInnis blows a tire…
The “TEA Party Darling” for Colorado Governor, Dan Maes, was handed an engraved invitation to the GOP nomination with yesterday’s revelation that his much better funded establishment rival, Scott McInnis, collected a six-figure payday for unoriginal…
