Great debate for the most part, but Norton sucking up to Buck at the end was just disingenuous after all the nasty attacks she has leveled at him.

Buck had to back pedal a lot. Jane Norton put out the substance answers. Buck had to go back and do “mop up” several times. Norton was scoring on him every time. She scored big when she quoted how Buck has said he wanted to pull out of Afghanistan. She also scored big on how to cut government spending. She nailed him at the end with the federal ethics charges. He tried to spin his way out, but it did not work. People can easily understand giving the defense critical information that would destroy the prosecution’s case. It resulting in the illegal gun dealer walking because of how Buck compromised the case. Buck was told he had to resign, or be fired, and sent to ethics classes by John Suthers. Buck is so damaged he should drop out. It makes no sense for him to stay in the race.

    Cheri,
As I recall you said several months ago you received the information directly from John Suthers. Are you willing to state that again?

John Suthers, Tom Strickland and Ken Buck knew the contents of that private personnel file. Cheri, did you really get the information from John Suthers?

I guess some politicians will do anything to win.

I talked to John Suthers at Republican Headquarters in October. He told me he had told Buck to not grab the 5,000 Hispanic tax returns. He told Buck it would be an illegal search and seizure. John said show probable cause for just the few where he could prove up identity theft and get a legal search warrant. He also said the US Supreme Court has ruled that anyone in our country, legal or illegal, has the full protection of the Constitution, including the 4th amendment. That is one very good reason not to close GITMO and bring the terrorists to our soil. They would then have Constitutional rights. That is also the reason why Buck violated the 4th Amendment rights of the 5,000 Hispanics, and the same law where it is codified in the Colorado Constitution. Buck lied about the 5,000, saying he only took 1,300 until he was on Richard Randall’s show in May. I went over to Norton’s campaign after talking to John. I had others issues with Buck, but this was the one that convinced me to leave. I have been through enough elections I know what the Democrats and press will do to Buck. I also cannot work for anyone who is not honest! The Democrats are already using the R word to describe grabbing the tax returns.

I do not know where I heard about the US Attorney story. I started digging for it, and found the story on line sometime around the first of the year. John could not tell me anything about that story since it is sealed in the Dept of Justice. I read an article on line by Jim Fraiser, who detailed the malfeasance. (The story was taken down in the Spring) I have been called all kinds of things for putting out the truth. I do not lie, and I do not make up anything. The story that broke in the Denver Post had more details than I did, which means it is likely some attorneys still in the US Attorneys office broke it, or some who were there when Buck was there.

I knew the story would come out, but I was surprised it came out before the primary. The Democrats and press have had both of these stories and more. They have kept quiet so Buck will be our nominee. They know they can defeat him in November. These stories are also why Norton was asked to run. These two stories are ones the general public can easily understand. People can understand being sent to ethics classes. We already have a lot of people in Washington who need ethics classes. People can easily understand grabbing 5,000 Hispanic tax returns, violating the 4th amendment. The government is trampling on our rights frequently. I have asked several attorneys if it is a big deal for Buck to be sent to ethics classes, especially by the US Attorney. Every one of them has said it is huge! As I talk to people out in the community, I am getting the response from them that both of these stories are huge. I am not being mean when I say Buck should drop out. The Republicans could stop going after each other and work to defeat the Democrats.

How many people that respond to comments of this kind are Buck employees. I think most.

Cheri, Ken says his letter was given to him when he left the U.S. Attorney’s office.

That measn it is not sealed somewhere in the DOJ, and Barack Obama doesn’t have it to release. Those are all your wet dreams, but your dreams do not resemble fact. Again, Suthers, Strickland and Buck knew about this incident. Who talked out of school? My guess right now is Suthers and I will surely reconsider my advocacy for him.

Read this from Vincent Carroll of the Denver Post:

And this from Dave Kopel, a constitutional scholar:

We are at the dirty politics point of this campaign and Jane Norton/Suthers/Owens and the cabal are coming through as only true dirty politicians can.

    Betty,

Without any knowledge, it is unfair of you to write such a thing. I don’t know the others, but I am employed by no one. In fact, I haven’t even worked for a campaign in a long, long time. My friend drug me to a meet and greet for Ken Buck. I was struck by his sincerity and his respect for the U.S. Constitution.

I have since been impressed with Ken Buck’s efforts to stop identity theft and fight crime. Since Ken Buck was first elected, crime in Weld County has dropped 50% while the population increased by 40%.

Just last week, he indicted the dirty cop in Fort Collins whose perjury sent an innocent man to prison for ten years. A week or so before that, he participated in the investigation and arrest of multiple drug dealers. He took a large quantity of pure meth off the streets. That’s meth our children and grandchildren will not be exposed to.

Buck and his supporters can try to spin the US Attorney story. The fact remains Buck was sent to ethics classes for malfeasance in the US Attorneys office. People and very easily understand the story. People can also clearly understand grabbing 5000 Hispanic tax returns illegally, violating their 4th amendment rights. These stories, and others still to come out, are the reasons Norton was asked to run. Buck has too much baggage that makes him totally unelectable.

I agree with Val that Suthers makes the most sense as the source of the leak from the US Attorney’s office.

Cheri, you had us all tantalized for a couple of months with the supposed “cloud” at the US Attorney’s office. When it came out I was laughing because I think it’s a positive for Buck. In fact, the Golyansky case combined with the prosecution of the perjurious cop in the Masters case are what pushed me from leaning Buck to enthusiastically supporting Buck.

I disagree with the tax preparer’s case. But get real, you’re never going to agree with ever prosecutorial decision. I wanted to be assured it wasn’t part of a pattern, and I could not have asked to be more reassured. No one can come up with any cop prosecuted for perjury by any DA in Colorado history until Buck made his move.

Ken Buck is extremely bright and thoughtful. Do you honestly believe Ken wasn’t the clear winner of the debates?

I do not think Buck won either debate. It really does not matter what we think about the malfeasance from the US Attorneys office, or grabbing 5,000 tax returns. Buck was fired and sent to ethics classes by John Suthers, then US Attorney. The State Supreme Court ruled the grab an illegal search and seizure. The public will look at Buck as someone who does not follow the law. Both issues are easy to understand. With so many in Washington needing ethics classes, Jane’s ad is right when she says Buck will fit right in.
