Union Astroturfing at Illegal Immigration March

The Colorado Independent’s report on fourteen “reform activists” arrested Tuesday in Downtown Denver following a march for what the participants called “immigration reform” failed to note the extensive coordination and presence of SEIU (Service Employees International Union) astroturfing efforts seen in the video, and noted by CBS4Denver and the Denver Posts’s coverage:
Mateos Alvarez, a political organizer for the Service Employees International Union Local 105, said he was tired of seeing Congress take no action on introducing an immigration bill.
“We want immigration reform this year,” said Alvarez, who was among those arrested. “This is not to embarrass the city of Denver or Denver police; it’s to bring attention to the need of immigration reform.”
Throughout the video, numerous participants are wearing the iconic SEIU “purple” shirt, and are seen to be carrying a “Justice for Janitors” banner prominently at the head of the march.
Disclosure of SEIU-affiliated protesters did not appear on 5280’s blog, KUNC (NPR affiliate), KDVR Fox 31 (AP feed), The Denver Channel (same AP feed), or 9NEWS (same AP feed as well).
