Walker Stapleton collects 27,000 signatures to get on August primary ballot for Treasurer

Walker Stapleton, a candidate for state treasurer who skipped the GOP state assembly, reportedly has successfully collected 27,000 signatures, well over the 10,500 and 1,500 from each of the seven congressional districts in Colorado needed to get on the ballot. He will oppose the GOP establishment's candidate for the nomination for Treasurer, J.J. Ament. Stapleton is expected to spend upwards of $600,000 on the race, well over the some $400,000 spent by each of the candidates for Treasure in 2006. The winner of the GOP primary will face incumbent Democrat Treasurer Cary Kennedy, in the November general election. Search this site for the GOP candidates' last names to see my interviews with them. Kennedy never has responded to my invitation to do an interview.Comments

Hmm, 27,000 signatures. That sounds suspiciously close to 35,000 signatures. Why would that be…
Oh, that’s right. I remember being approached by someone (obviously hired – he had no clue what was going on) at the Fort Collins Tea Party with two petitions. One was for Stapleton; the other I didn’t have time to find out because I wanted to hear someone speak, but it had to be either Norton or Wiens. I wonder if Norton and Stapleton used the same company? I could be wrong, anybody else know?

[...] Walker Stapleton, left greater margins for error. Norton turned in about 35,000 signatures and Stapleton delivered 27,000 to the Secretary of State for verification. They also had more time to collect the [...]
