In Which the Chatterbox in Chief Keeps Going, and Going, and Go…

Why the myth of Barack Obama as a great orator still has adherents baffles me. Hell, why such a farcical yarn ever took off baffles me. The man is not even an ordinarily adequate reciter of words written for him.
Today, our exalted and magnificent leader left Washington, as well as common sense and his manners, behind to descend on Charlotte, where he explained how a cautious forecast of increased domestic production of lithium batteries in five years or so proves the stimulus worked.
North Carolina gave its 15 electoral votes to Obama in 2008; prior to this, the Tar Heels hadn’t backed a leftie since the anti-Nixon wave of 1976. True to form, the Democrats have wasted no time in blowing a solid chance at picking up a Senate seat this fall. But polls are only predictions and they really wanted to nail this one. Not satisfied with their performance, they sent in their fresh faced boy wonder. Faced with a simple and valid question – aren’t you concerned, Mr. Humble and Glad Servant of the Peoples’ Will, about adding yet more taxes with the healthcare bill, Obama behaved like…well…himself.
He started off with an insult to this woman, Doris-the-taxpaying-voter, pouting about the ‘misapprehension’ of rising tax burdens that he’d just have to correct (all by himself, presumably), before launching into a quarter-of-an-hour diatribe that never answered her question. Saints alive, people, just consider the chutzpah of the sonofabitch who passes a law the people clearly don’t want and then blames them for increasing his workload by making him justify himself.
True, it’s basic rhetoric to answer the question you want to answer and not the one you were asked. Be that as it may, it is also advisable to refrain from a reply so discursive, incoherent, and monotonous that Politico writes an article detailing it.
It is also not a wise orating tactic when your remarks resemble a Monty Python skit: I would like to make a point here…And my second point is…ah…I would like to make two points…additionally…three! three points!…And my final point…aha, amongst my points are…and in summation, my point is…drat! I’ll come in again…
Whether beginning with,”Well, let’s talk about that…” before vomiting out a term paper, or concluding with, “I hope I’ve answered your question” when he might as well have used medieval Sino-Croation sign language for all the relevance and clarity he delivered, this is the profoundly human creature we voted for. Perhaps, even, more human than most.
For those of you keeping score at home, he ended up with seven points.
Ah, Barry. A year ago they lined up in the pre-dawn frigidity to watch your train go past. Now they don’t even hide their yawns and they wander out while you’re still talking. Don’t feel ignored, though. Your enemies are paying lots of attention.

Read the Washington Post story about Obama’s rambling 17-minute non answer here:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/44/2010/04/obamas-17-minute-2500-word-res.html
More important, read the angry comments that follow the story. People are so angry that they’re showing their racism, anti-semitism and deep distrust of the President. He sounded like a fool and a C-minus student, and people are almost gloating that he’s showed his true colors as never before.
I continue to wonder which of the posters are professional provocateurs who are trying to make conservatives look racists. Are the racists comments coming from conservatives or libs trying to make conservatives look racists. If the latter, they’re succeeding as never before today. I’ve never seen such racism on a mainstream media thread of comments, and it’s very sad.
The question is, does the WH understand that it’s over reaching and abuse of power is bringing out the worst in Americans?

I didn’t get to edit my comment before accidentally hitting the submit button. The last sentence should read:
