Dan Maes’ position on citizenship for illegals ‘evolves’
by Donald E. L. Johnson | 5:58 am, April 8, 2010 | Comments Off
Just as his Republican opponent, Scott McInnis, has moved over the years from being what most perceived as a pro-choice member of the U.S. House to an anti-abortion candidate for governor, Dan Maes has moved over the last year from supporting a path to U.S. citizenship for illegal immigrants to opposing granting illegals citizenship. Former U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo appears to have influenced McInnis on abortion and Maes on granting citizenship to illegals. Tancredo's friends and supporters distrust McInnis on abortion, and, now, Maes on illegal immigration. The question is, which issue is more important to voters in the GOP August 10 primary, and which candidate is more believable? Or are conservative voters more focused on the economy, taxes and jobs than on social and border security issues?Comments
