Will Ken Buck, Tea Partiers denounce ‘Taxpayers for Liberty’?

by Donald E. L. Johnson | 7:09 pm, March 13, 2010 | 7 Comments

A secretive group that’s apparently backing U.S. Senate candidate Ken Buck is drawing fire from fellow Rocky Mountain Alliance blogger Ben DeGrow. He’s tried to find out who’s behind Taxpayers for Liberty because he thinks they’re using some “sleazy” tactics in their campaign against GOP candidate Jane Norton, the leader in the Senate race. The usually mild-mannered DeGrow doesn’t have a candidate in this race as far as I know. But he thinks it’s time for Buck and the leaders of Tea Party, 9.12 and other conservative groups to denounce the TFL. Based on his reporting so far, I think that would be a good idea, and it should happen before Tuesday’s caucuses. The TFL’s ads are backfiring on Buck, and if it doesn’t clean up its act and tell us who is backing it, Buck will pay the price. Unlike the print and TV media, bloggers follow their stories with frequent updates. And as the story grows, others join in. DeGrow’s story already has been syndicated to http://www.RockyMountainRight.com and to http://www.PeoplesPressCollective.com. So it’s imperative for Buck that this nonsense stop now! His very clean reputation is at stake. I’ve found the TFL attacks on Norton very misleading and unfair even though I don’t have a candidate in the U.S. Senate race. They’ve hurt Buck more than they’ve helped him.

I am chair of El Paso Co TEA Party, and I totally denounce the nefarious actions by Taxpayers for Liberty! We had our debate on Tuesday night of all Senate candidates, and TFL were handing out the questionnaire, with a request for a donation. I received the earlier CFL mailer, and they looked exactly alike! This does not surprise me, because Buck has not come clean about the 5,000 tax returns he grabbed illegally from a Hispanic tax preparer. He has not come clean about why he was demoted in the US Attorney’s office, from head of Criminal prosecutions, to the bottom of Civil prosecutions! He refused to prosecute an illegal gun runner, who later shows up making campaign contributions to Buck, He told me personally that the 4:3 decision from the State Supreme Court ruling grabbing the tax returns illegal did not matter, because it was only by one vote! Buck has lots of questions to answer, but I would not hold your breath. He thinks we are no

Buck is a lawyer, even though he said he was not a lawyer, but a prosecutor. He should know the law, but he is choosing not to follow it. People can see through his actions.

Can you put a link on your blog, here or ColPol? I’ll look at Ben’s site, but including the link always makes it easier for people like me!

What does the Tea Party have to do with any of this? Why should they denounce it? I feel the Tea Party or 912 organizations making a deal out of this only ties them to something they have nothing to do with. Please explain the connection? Should we denounce any sleazy tactic from her til November even if we have nothing to do with it? I say ignore it, let Ken Buck deal with it, but the Tea Parties shouldn’t stick their noses where they are not involved.

This thread is mostly re-posts of comments from others, and I make no offer to attack or defend this comment, merely re-post it:

…under the Mount Virtus source article, Keith Olson comments: “Ms. Ofner I believe you should disclose that you are listed as a member of Jane Norton’s El Paso County leadership team.”

There are several reasons the TEA Party and 9/12 Patriots should be involved. One reason is Buck has been sounding a lot like Glenn Beck since Norton entered the race in the fall. I know, because I was chair of his campaign for El Paso until November. I and many others never heard ANY of the talk he is putting out now! The second reason is he now says he was opposed to Ref C, again, just since Norton entered the race. There is not a shred of any evidence to prove it, and the people in Weld Co say that he SUPPORTED it. TEA Party and 9/12 people are tired of politicians misleading and misrepresenting.

Cheri, if the question is about Ref C, then considering the time it was decided, and who was Lt Gov at that time, it might be important to ask whether Norton’s public advocacy in favor of increasing taxes was more influential on the final outcome as compared to what Buck said from his Weld county office.

The PPC cracked this case before:
