This is Day 2 of a 10-part installment.
9. Both Parties are looking for ways to use Tea Party movement.
Rather than listening to and trying to understand this collection of voters, most of both parties’ power players are trying to use the Tea Party movement to advance their own agenda.
Republican Party leaders in Colorado and across the country have been trying to ”ride the coattails” of the Tea Party movement. After some clumsy attempts to corral us, the GOP now seems more focused on cajoling Tea Partiers to accept principles, “platforms” and candidates because they “know best” and we are just a bunch of political novices from their perspective. If the Republican “powers that be” know so much, why did they lose favor with and power from the people? Shall we also remind them of their broken Contract with America?
On a few occasions over the past year, some Colorado Republicans and campaign workers have tried to influence and/or exert control over a local Tea Party or The 9.12 Project group. This has caused some disharmony and a couple of bands to lose members to other groups. However, Tea Partiers and 912ers are so independent-minded that even those within their ranks are not going to persuade others to vote en masse for a candidate who does not have conservative bona fides or who has not answered their questions about the issues. Since we have been burned by politicians on both sides of the aisle our trust level is extremely low for all of them. Thus, such efforts have or will fail and only serve to make Tea Partiers more suspicious as well as leery of the GOP and their motives.
We do not accept Republicans’ excuses for promoting “moderate” candidates as clearly demonstrated by the US Senate primary in Florida. As far as most of the Tea Party are concerned, you are either with us or against We the People. Republican leadership should help us weed the party and its slate of candidates each election cycle, or they eventually are going to be tossed out with the weeds, as well. The “big tent” for either party should not include accepting members/candidates who do not genuinely espouse American ideals or who pretend to be what they are not just to get elected.
Democrats also are attempting to use the Tea Party movement to their advantage, just in different ways. Their plans include deriding the Tea Party to fire up their minions and ”kool-aid drinking” base and causing any additional division within the Republican Party. But, Tea Partiers are on to them and will not play their games either. Beware you so-called progressives of being on the Tea Party radar. After we have Republicans on the “road to recovery,” some of us are dedicated to fixing your party next. And, for the Democrat detoxification effort, we will be bringing heavy-duty American-strength purification equipment and supplies, including the Constitution. These will prove more effective and do a more thorough job than the “mop” President Obama has stated he and Speaker Pelosi are using to clean up after his predecessor.
Envision Tea Partiers ”scrubbing and restoring” while singing these new lyrics, Liberal Nightmare Land, penned for an old tune (Winter Wonderland):
Voters call, are you listening?
In our eyes tears are glistening.
Once beautiful life is gone in the night,
Living in a Liberal Nightmare Land.
Gone away is our freedom;
Here to stay is a serfdom;
Unhappy to night, stripped of our rights
Living in a Liberal Nightmare Land.
In the Congress [or Senate] you are just a straw man,
And pretend that you will save our land.
You say, “Are you liberal?”
We say, “NO Man!”
But you don’t listen to the citizens.
Later on we’ll conspire
As we plot by the fire;
To face unafraid the mess that you’ve made
Living in a Liberal Nightmare Land.
Tomorrow we will take a look at reason #8 in our countdown of the Top 10 Reasons Why Both Parties Are in Tea Party Hot Water. Until then, remember to keep turning up the heat on all of those tea pots out there.
