A moving counterpoint to all of those “praise Obama” cult of personality videos making the rounds…
This morning, I attended one of my usual breakfast club groups, who put on a special “Salute to Veterans” edition in honor of Veterans Day. A few days earlier, a colleague had convinced me to attend in my military “Class A’s” as the club honored the service of military members from WWII to the present. It was a very well put-together and nicely done tribute.
At the end of the meeting, another acquaintance “drafted” me to attend another event honoring veterans at a local school. Since I was already all dressed up with nowhere to go, how could I say no? Especially when it’s ‘for the children’, right?
Despite my just-in-time and unscheduled arrival, I was warmly welcomed by the staff and teachers at the school (Lois Lenski Elementary in Littleton, Colorado). So far, nothing out of the norm – always appreciated, but not entirely unexpected. However, I was caught absolutely off-guard and unprepared – and, I’m not ashamed to admit, got a bit misty-eyed – by the following lyrical salute to “Honor Those Who Serve” delivered in beautiful voice by the assembled schoolchildren:
(Apologies for the poor video quality and image rotation – not planning on filming, I took this with my cellphone, the first time I’d used it for video)
