The Old School GOP Way of Business – Are They Learning the Lesson?

by | 12:14 am, November 23, 2009 | 1 Comment

I was at the Republican National Committee (RNC) sponsored Say It Out Loud presentation this past Friday in Denver.Teaparty Protester

There was a good mix of folks there, from the Peoples’ Press Collective, R Block Party, 9/12, as well as more traditional supporters of the GOP.

It’s fair to say many conservatives and independents are angry and the 2008 election demonstrates that.  That’s why we’ve seen the rise of conservative activism outside the party structure and why people are now more engaged in supporting candidates that support their values first and party second (or even third).

While at Say It Loud, I was part of a conversation with a RNC rep and a person involved with a candidate in a statewide Colorado race.  This person from Colorado was railing against candidates in the 2010 race who have decided to run without “paying their dues to the Party.”

This arrogance and attitude is is exactly the mindset that must change for the GOP to rebuild itself.  To rebrand itself, its message, and regain the trust of the people, who’ve they’ve betrayed by abandoning the core principles they proclaim to embrace, the GOP must understand it needs to find leaders prepared to be servants of the people over being servants of the party.

Colorado GOP, are YOU listening?  If not, you’re going to lose your independents who will not vote for the lesser of evils this time.

Wow, that exchange with the operative was simultaneously revealing and completely unsurprising. Thanks for the update Derec!
