Mark Udall: wrong on costs, misguided on coverage

From the Denver Business Journal on Mark Udall:
Udall, D-Colo., said he is “carefully reviewing this legislation,” entitled the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. But he did say he was “encouraged” that the measure, which Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid unveiled on Wednesday, “is estimated to drive down the federal deficit by $127 billion over the next 10 years, while providing health coverage to 94 percent of Americans, both of which are major accomplishments.”
Poppycock! The $127 billion deficit reduction is false for many reasons - a main one being is that the increased spending under the Senate bill does not begin until a few years into “the next 10 years” (2014). For more, see Dishonest cost projections for Democrat health bills.
As for coverage, coverage is not care. Just ask the folks in Massachusetts:
The percentage of primary care practices closed to new patients is the highest it’s ever been as recorded by the Medical Society. — Massachusetts Medical Society

It’s awfully easy to accuse the BLS of fudging the numbers for political purposes, especially since an improving economy is likely to improve Obama’s chances for a second term. But honesty requires that we look more closely at those numbers.
