Denver County Initiated Ordinance 300

With the idea of keeping my eye on the other side, I once signed up to receive ProgressNow’s email blasts and continue to do so. On October 20th, and again today, they sent a message strongly opposing Denver County Initiated Ordinance 300 (you can read this message at http://www.scribd.com/doc/21366927/ProgressNow-Colorado-Email-Opposing-Denver-Initiated-Ordinance-300 ). This ordinance would require Denver police to immediately impound vehicles operated by unlicensed drivers who do not have proof of insurance and other identification.
The ProgressNow letter opens, “It’s true. If Initiative 300 in Denver passes, and you forget your wallet and get pulled over, police officers will be forced to impound your car leaving you stranded.” This ProgressNow scenario, however, greatly distorts the truth. The ballot language reads, “…without [emphasis added] requiring the immediate impoundment of a vehicle when a validly licensed driver does not have such license in their immediate possession but has corroborating identification and proof of insurance…” Furthermore, the supporter’s (Future Denver) web-site, http://futuredenver.com/index.html, specifically states, “this ordinance contains strong language to protect legal drivers who forgot or temporarily lost their license from being towed.”
I urge all Denver residents who have not yet voted to learn the facts and make an informed decision. This measure is about cracking down on those who drive illegally and, according to Future Denver, cause a disproportionate share of fatal accidents.

Of course not! Why would anyone conclude that errors are geographical? Errors are errors and attempts to reinflate the British economy using the same hot air compressors that we use here aren’t going to work any better over there than they have here.
