Apple Withdraws From U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Not China, over Greenhouse Emissions

The intellectual luminaries at ColoradoPols are touting Apple’s withdrawal from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce as a sign that the Chamber is veering toward “far-right positions” on greenhouse gas emissions or health care reform.
Too bad a quick search of where Apple operates around the world, particularly in China, where the laptop used to write this post was produced, refutes the notion that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce is indeed the “reactionary” institution threatening global climate change by opposition to controls on greenhouse gas emissions.
China’s record of rapid economic growth has entailed significant environmental challenges to areas of industrial development, like Shenzhen, where Apple operates a manufacturing complex.
But for those who care more about feeling and caring about the environment and taking shots at organizations like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, this isn’t even a consideration. Apple’s hypocritical “eco-sanctimony” is ok–as long as it challenges those “far-right positions” on greenhouse gas emissions.
