Rep. Betsy Markey (D-CO), previously AWOL on Town Halls, Limits Access, Calls For “Civility”

Michelle Malkin links–thanks! Betsy Markey = “etiquette czarina”

Rep. Betsy Markey’s constituents are still looking for access to their elected representative, despite Markey’s consituents-only “Congress on Your Corner” limited meetings:

U.S. Rep. Betsy Markey is asking participants in her upcoming slate of town-hall meetings to be calm, civil and polite.

But if voters angry over President Barack Obama’s attempts to overhaul the nation’s health care system don’t heed her plea, maybe they’ll listen to the Father of Our Country.

An abridged version of “Rules of Civility & Decent Behavior in Company and Conversation” — attributed to George Washington but likely a simplified version of rules written by French Jesuits dating to 1595 — will be handed out to everyone who attends Markey’s town hall sessions.
. . .
Markey has highlighted eight of the 110 and updated them with a modern interpretation. Perhaps the most important for her town hall sessions also was No. 1 on Washington’s list: “Every action done in company ought to be with some sign of respect to those that are present.”

Or, as she says: “Respect one another. Don’t yell at people. Don’t hold a sign in front of someone’s face. You may not agree with what they say, but everybody deserves a right to speak.”
. . .
Markey, a Democrat, is planning 10 “Congress on Your Corner” meetings throughout the August recess. The first one is scheduled for today at Colorado State University’s Lory Student Center from 9 a.m. until noon.
. . .
Markey says she wants groups of 15 to 20 people to join her for public listening sessions before another group is ushered in, said Marter.

We have no problem with calls for civility.

Of course, this would be a lot less risible if her call also applied to union thugs and ACORN operatives.

The limited access (aside from being AWOL for nearly half of August), however, is shameful–this in stark contrast to Rep. Mike Coffman (R-CO), who held four consecutive town halls last Thursday to accommodate hundreds of constituents who showed up in Arapahoe County.

If anyone goes, be sure to bring a copy of the Constitution to give to Rep. Markey.

It’s more than just “guidelines.”

Everyone who goes to her meetings should give her a copy of the Constitution.

Maybe you should underline the part of the constitution that says elected officials are to be shouted down and threatened with gun violence if they vote in a way that annoys a fringe minority of their constituents.

Hey Ralph: Come on! Fringe minority? I’ll bet you have no idea that our country was modeled and created so that we are a couple clicks below anarchy. The founding fathers wanted a system where government officials always felt a little uncomfortable and feared the people, not the current situation. You think these people that are showing up are a minority? Oh Boy! Could you articulate the exact circumstance of which you speak because even the MSM hasn’t reported such a thing. They DID report about a white man that showed up wearing a gun because he was such a racist and hated the idea of a black President…. that was actually a black man.
