Denver’s KBDI PBS Affiliate Smiles on 9/11 Truth Movement, Shames Self

Denver PBS affiliate KBDI is being hailed by left-wing media website Media Channel for this week being the first broadcast channel in the U.S. to air 9/11: Press for Truth, a documentary covering efforts by the Jersey Girls and others to uncover the Troof™ about the September 11 terrorist attacks:

Following the attacks of September 11th, a small group of grieving families waged a tenacious battle against those who sought to bury the truth about the event. In this documentary, six of them – including three of the famous 9/11 widows known as the “Jersey Girls” – tell the powerful story of how they took on the greatest powers in Washington, compelling lawmakers to launch an investigation that ultimately failed to answer most of their questions. The filmmakers collaborated with the media group Globalvision to stitch together overlooked news clips, buried stories, and government press conferences, revealing a pattern of official lies, deception, and spin. As a result, a very different picture of 9/11 emerges – one that raises new, and more pressing, questions.

To mark the film’s U.S. broadcast premiere, Executive Producer Kyle Hence, Director Ray Nowosielski, and family member Bob McIlvaine – who lost his son Bobby in the attacks on New York – will be in the KBDI studios to discuss the film throughout the evening. Additionally, volunteers from Colorado 911 Visibility will be on hand to answer phones.

Why is KBDI pandering to conspiracy theorists? The Media Channel bit offers this primly naive explanation from hostess Shari Bernson:

”Channel 12 zeroed in on this documentary to further our exploration of the movement toward truth and accountability in the country,” Bernson said.  The station is already receiving inquiry calls and emails, she said. “We are pleased to see interest in the subject matter that shouldn’t be shunned, and deserves to be discussed more widely.”

Does it? These conspiracy theories about who knew what and when and how they failed (or refused…) to act to prevent the attacks have been analyzed and discussed ad nauseam over the past eight years. There are good reasons this subject matter gets shunned, reasons having to do with stubborn, passionate imperviousness to reasoned arguments and the recitation of facts on the part of the proponents of such theories. Why Ms. Bernson and KBDI think that such subject matter shouldn’t be shunned isn’t explained.

Wikipedia has the basic background on 9/11: Press for Truth. I started to detail out the names mentioned in the blurb above, but the effort quickly turned into the usual exercise in untangling competing paranoid accusations and dark hints and unsourced rumors that one runs into when dealing with those peddling conspiracy theories – suffice to say that despite the descriptions of the film portraying its subject as a simple, reasonable quest for nothing more controversial than a “fuller investigation” of the events of September 11, the principals are indeed involved with the 9-11 Truth movement.

One ‘unanswered question’ I have is, while their vision ostensibly includes “giving voice to independent, under-represented and frequently unpopular perspectives and views”, why did KBDI choose to air a documentary giving voice – and credibility – to 9/11 conspiracy theories? An honest, even-handed analysis of controversial ideas is okay by me, but this is a documentary co-produced and co-written by a 9/11 Truther, featuring the viewpoints of other 9/11 Truthers — viewpoints KBDI not only aired but then reinforced with a panel discussion featuring the filmmakers and a 9/11 family member and “Truth Cult” member, with the phones operated by volunteers from a 9/11 Truth organization.

Discussing controversial subjects is one thing. Lending the credibility of PBS to long-debunked conspiracy theories is quite another.

And now predictably, the airing of this “documentary” by KBDI presents troofers with a small wedge for leverage to press for increased airings…

“Let your local PBS stations know about this successful event, and recommend to them to also show 9/11: Press For Truth.”

Subsequently, when other stations decline to air the piece, it won’t be because they’re exercising a higher standard than did KBDI, it will be because they’re part of the cover-up, etc, etc, and the conspiracy grows, never to to be satisfied.
