SB09-170 = New Math

SB-170 was just passed from committee on April Fools Day!  This is one of many examples of how the new math works in today’s terms.  Take any good conservative, subtract common sense, and you get liberalism.   The equation looks something like this:

SB-170 is the bill that will (when passed) grant in-state tuition to illegal aliens.  The arguments put forth by Colorado Senator Chris Romer (District 32) included statements to the effect that higher education is consistent with fewer teen pregnancies and fewer trips to the crowbar motel (jail).  So therefore, we as Coloradoan’s should support giving in-state tuition to illegal aliens.  To read Chris Romer’s position, click here.

Lets just add back some common sense shall we?  If we take Romer’s arguments at face value (read “gag me”) lets examine:  Illegal aliens must make up a lot of the folks that have teen pregnancies and jail.  Otherwise, why else would the good Senator push for this?   I think Romer just made the conservative argument for border security. 

If at face value we believe that granting a cheaper higher education reduces teen pregnancies and jail time, along with other lofty social goals (read “kitchen sink”), then why don’t we provide in-state tuition for everyone?

If we think real hard, we can surmise the answer ….. wait for it ….. Yep, it is pandering for votes at the expense of the tax payers.   We were not only handed a load of road apples (things that come from the south end of a northbound liberal), but we now get to pay for what will be an extremely expensive legal battle at the state and federal level, and multiple legal battles from our own good citizens that want equal treatment under the law and get in-state tuition versus the more expensive out-of-state tuition.
