Ignoring the U.S. Constitution by doing an end-run around it (you know, by amendment), coming soon to a state near you--Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois, and Hawaii have already passed this legislation.The Independence Institute's "Independent Thinking" program delved into the controversial electoral college debate centered upon HB 1299, the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, strongly opposed not only by bloggers and pundits but also The Denver Post and InDenverTimes.com (successor to the Rocky Mountain News):

The idea of dividing the electoral college so that it deviates from the winner takes all system that we have in the US is awesome and will finally give some clout to third parties…

To Travis – (NOT the real one): dude, what ARE you smoking? The only parties that would gain any clout from this ill-conceived abortion of a bill are the ones they’ll be throwing in LA & NYC.
For any of the rest of us in “flyover country”, we’ll be kissing our votes (and our “clout”) goodbye. And that goes double (triple?) for “3rd parties.”
