Mandatory Volunteerism is Slavery

Just in case you missed it, Congress just passed the Generations Invigorating Volunteerism and Education (GIVE) Act, H.R. 1388.
Now I know Washington (and most Leftists and Progressives) doesn’t care much for that antiquated document written by old, racist and sexist white men, but if I recall correctly, the 13th Amendment to the United States Constitution reads: “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”
She’s right. It is ironic that in the time of the first black President, Washington politicians would be advocating to reinstate slavery. It sounds like we’ll soon have the opportunity to see if Obama will choose to sign slavery into law.

Of course not! Why would anyone conclude that errors are geographical? Errors are errors and attempts to reinflate the British economy using the same hot air compressors that we use here aren’t going to work any better over there than they have here.

Hubba-hubba. She’s foxy! Just as foxy as she is historically ignorant.
And is that supposed to be a black Southerner’s accent or a cracker’s accent?
But I digress.
Uh, now I forgot why I posted here.

Oh yes, now I remember, two things: 1) could you point out the provision in the bill that makes service mandatory?; 2) assuming you can find it, could you please elaborate on how mandatory service is tantamount to slavery?
Don’t get me wrong; I think it’s a dumbass bill. But the proper response from conservatives to dumbass legislation is not to engage in dumbass commentary.

Snaggle-Tooth: you should obey your own admonishment (about not engaging in dumbass commentary).
The very definition of slavery is “mandatory service” for the benefit of others.
Or does your fetish for the “old South” blind you to that reality?

The very definition of slavery is “mandatory service” for the benefit of others.
Really? You’re arguing that, say, a military draft is tantamount to slavery?
Or does your fetish for silly commentary prevent you from making important logical distinctions?
By the way, could YOU point out the provision in the bill that speaks to mandatory service? Thanks in advance.

HellOOOOOOOO! Anyone home?
Waiting for someone to point out where mandatory service is set forth in the bill. Thanks in advance.

Apparently snags is unfamiliar with the concept of people having a life…
OK, snags, challenge accepted: I actually spent some time reading the bill (for those unfamiliar with legislative language, I don’t recommend it, unless you’re short on sleeping pills or have an extreme masochistic bent).
Naturally, in the tradition of all authoritarian regimes, it starts with the “children.” The mandatory service requirement provisions begin in school:
“service-learning is a mandatory part of the curriculum in all of the secondary schools served by the local educational agency.”
The bill goes on to describe in nauseating detail the various forms of “service-learning” to be imposed on our children in secondary schools.
But wait, college students – you’re not done yet, particularly if you receive any government financial aid:
“agree to provide service upon graduation to meet unmet human, educational, environmental, or public safety needs related to such training”
Just a couple of examples (I won’t bore anyone – or myself – with more here).
And to forestall any objections that these programs won’t be universal in application and participation – true, in detail. Of course, other “youth service” programs in history were theoretically voluntary, too – the Hitler Youth, Komsomols, etc. were “voluntary” youth service organizations that only eventually became all-encompassing (totalitarian?) in scope.

The mandatory service provision was stripped from the bill, wasn’t it?
And, once more, what’s your take on the draft? Slavery?
