Earth Hour vs. Human Achievement Hour

by elpresidente | 1:17 pm, March 29, 2009 | 6 Comments

**Update–apparently even moonbats concerned enviros aren’t convinced of the efficacy of “Earth Hour,” seeing as consumption in strongly left-leaning states like New York and California showed no discernable drop in energy consumption during the touted 8:30-9:30pm slot.

Michelle Malkin has the background–which side are you on?

From Ari at FreeColorado.com–”Remember to turn on all of your lights — all of them! — Saturday at 8:30 p.m. to celebrate Edison Hour. In fact, turn on all of your electrical appliances you can manage. Take an hour to appreciate the discovery of electricity and the invention of electrical power generation and the electric light. Say a silent “thank you” to the scientists, industrialists, businessmen, and producers who have made possible electrical power.”

2008 Denver Earth Hour flashback–Yes, I’m serious–brainwashed elementary school kids pounded the pavement on behalf of Earth Hour, encouraging guilting harassing their nighbors into darkness by insisting that lights be switched off in their neighborhood . . .

I cranked on all my lights. However to be fair the only house on the block with all their lights off was the neighbor across the street … but he’s up at A-Basin and wasn’t planing on coming home until tomorrow evening. Otherwise it wasn’t any more lights than normal.

I was disappointed that the tree hugger Obamites that live next door to me didn’t seem to know it was Earth Hour.

So I don’t know how many folk noticed.

I celebrated the hour with all my house lights burning brightly, the AC full blast, the stove hot as hell, the fridge door ajar, and extra metal halide lamps filling the gaps. In addition, outside I had all my cars running including my motor coach and its generator and of course all its lights too. My yard gave off one massive heat signature, it was glorious!

I not only turned on all my lights, enjoying the bright glow of civilization, but also ran my dishwasher and washing machine (ah, the benefits of those technological labor-saving devices!), enjoyed a History Channel perspective on David (of David vs. Goliath fame – turn out he was quite the thug, really) while surfing the internet. Human Achievement is a wonderful thing…

We celebrated Human Achievement Hour by having most of our electrical devices running and our house brightly lit with all the lights on (closets and basement, too) and going for a drive. Interestingly, none of our neighbors seemed to be aware of Human Achievement Hour or the WWF-sponsored Earth Hour, nor did any businesses or homes in nearby neighborhoods appear to participate in either event. Next year we’ll have to work harder and earlier to get folks involved in Human Achievement Hour.

I smelted some aluminum, while smashing some elementary particles in my basement cyclotron.
