Michael Huttner: Raging Hypocrite

by | 4:39 pm, February 19, 2009

Dear Mr. Huttner: Since Tuesday’s rally you’ve been all over the media coverage’s comments sections pointing out a protester carrying a sign bearing a swastika.   You’re outraged–OUTRAGED (“Please click the link to my website to see how outraged I am!”)–that anyone sink to the depths of using a swastika to describe your beloved Obama. So, Who IS the Swastika-Obama Sign Guy?

by | 10:00 am, February 19, 2009

Given the hornet’s nest of faux outrage he’s stirred up with his inappropriate sign, it’s surprising that nobody is asking the obvious question: Who exactly is this guy? Surely somebody knows his name.

Obama “Stimulus” Overreaches, But Republicans Still Have Much to Prove

by | 8:20 am, February 19, 2009

A candid word from liberal Mickey Kaus about a major effect of the Pelosi-Reid-Obama Generational Theft Act:

But the reference to liberalism isn’t irrelevant, because the now-undermined welfare reform was the key to rebuilding confidence in (liberal) affirmative government. As Bill Clinton recognized, voters may well have been willing to let government spend, but they didn’t [...]

Voice of Warriors Exposes CBS Anti-US Propaganda

#tcot I’ve said for years that since the 1960′s our enemies have fought us from within our own borders using the media, and until the Internet and the rise of Talk Radio they won without a fight. Now we can expose them.

If you watch the video below, you will see what looks like a story about our enemies getting a hold of our equipment and using it on us….it is bogus.

Rally For Personal Freedom: March 1

by | 10:28 am, February 18, 2009

Rally details:

THE GADSDEN SOCIETY of Colorado announces

A CELEBRATION
OF LIBERTY FOR ALL!

A RALLY FOR PERSONAL FREEDOM

Sunday, March 1, 2009
2:00 p.m.
On the West Steps of the State Capitol

Face the State interviewed the Gadsden Society:

The Gadsden Society is named after Sons of Liberty member Christopher Gadsden, the original designer of the yellow “Don’t Tread on Me” flag that become a symbol of liberty during the revolutionary era. The society was founded by Dave Williams, legislative director for the Libertarian Party of Colorado, political activist and blogger Lenina Close, and Wesley Dickinson of the People’s Press Collective. They are hoping to fill an existing void for a pro-liberty voice at the Capitol and provide testimony on bills moving through the legislature.

“The Gadsden Society is going to focus on trying to change policy on the state level,” Williams told Face the State. “A lot of the statewide organizations like the Independence Institute are prohibited from lobbying because of tax rules. We are filling that void as a non-partisan, non-profit, public advocacy group.”

The rally will be held Sunday, March 1 at 2 p.m. and will feature Aurora City Councilman Ryan Frazier, CU Regent Tom Lucero, and political activist Ross Kaminsky as keynote speakers. Williams’ hope for the rally is to “let people who still believe in smaller government and liberty know that they aren’t alone.”

Yet More Lefty Hypocrisy

by | 8:28 am, February 18, 2009

I personally don’t condone the use of the swastika in such frivolous contexts as protest signs – it trivializes the symbol of a truly monstrous evil.  I’ve condemned this before, most recently in my photoessays of the pro-Hamas counterprotests last month. But that said, it’s hard not to laugh at the outrage from the nutroots [...]

Turning Pork into Bacon

by | 12:50 am, February 18, 2009

It is official: the Anointed One and his tax and spend buddies just put America in a massive amount of debt. The “stimulus plan” gives us a lot of tasty pork. Even assuming that Keynesian economic theory works (it does not), most of the spending will not kick in for twelve to twenty-four months, and who knows what the economic situation will look like then. Really, the voters placed their trust in those who promise free money and give the siren call that regulation will solve problems. This is a dark time for freedom.

However, good can come from this.

Let each person use his $13 dollars per week to educate himself. Some suggestions to start your reading list:

By reading these books, each citizen will recognize the lies of the collectivists. Perhaps then, and only then, we will resist future calls for free money and government solutions.

From the “you must be $@*&! kidding” files: GM may need $30 billion in taxpayer money

by | 7:20 pm, February 17, 2009

According to a new story, “GM said it could need up to $30 billion from the Treasury Department, up from a previous estimate of $18 billion. That includes $13.4 billion previously allocated and $9.1 billion in new loans. The world’s largest automaker said it could run out of money by March without new funds.”

And trying to threaten the government and the public, they added this: “The auto maker said a traditional bankruptcy could cost as much as $100 billion.”

My guess is that the Dems in Congress will pretend to throw a little “tough love” at the automakers, but then give them most of what they want. Why? 1) If they don’t and the first $15 billion or $20 billion goes down the drain, they look like idiots and they know it will cost them in the next election, 2) They are doing everything they can to strengthen the power of unions in America…just at the time when America can least afford a non-competitive workforce, and 3) Who really cares about another $12 billion when you’ve just spent $3.7 trillion (the real cost of the “stimulus”)?

Furthermore, I predict that the unions will hold out on an agreement until most of the money is in, and then refuse to give in on almost anything, knowing the Dems in Congress will try to force the carmakers’ hands.

All in all, it’s a financial disaster of what would be epic proportions except for the numbness many of us feel from the tragedy of today’s “stimulus” bill signing.

Oh, “GM said all of its major U.S. vehicle launches from 2009 to 2014 would be high-mileage cars and crossovers.” You know what that means? It means the price of oil is going to stay very low for the next five years and everybody will want to buy larger, more solid cars, which in an amusing turnabout the Japanese will certainly be willing to provide (not to mention the Germans.)

Does anyone know how much it might cost to start a new car company? Seriously. If the government wants to be in the car business (like Lada and Trabant), they could probably start their own for much less money and hire the unemployed GM workers. The problem is that they’d encourage it to be an all-union workforce and they’d just keep losing out to companies with workers who have incentive to give a damn.

Obama kicks Winston Churchill out of the Oval Office

by | 4:29 pm, February 17, 2009

#tcot The bronze by Sir Jacob Epstein, worth hundreds of thousands of pounds if it were ever sold on the open market, enjoyed pride of place in the Oval Office during President Bush’s tenure.

But when British officials offered to let Mr Obama to hang onto the bust for a further four years, the White House said: “Thanks, but no thanks.” Read the rest at the UK Telegraph.

Obama signs Generational Theft Act

by | 4:16 pm, February 17, 2009

It’s a sad day for America, as The Chosen One flew to Denver (what a repulsive statement about our formerly excellent state) to sign one of the most ill-conceived pieces of legislation in American history.

If anyone tries to defend it to you in the next 48 hours, please ask him (or her) what percentage of the bill he has read or believes he understands.

One point that must be made: The media is talking about this bill as if it’s $787 billion…already an astoundingly irresponsible number.

But at the request of Congressman Paul Ryan, the Congressional Budget office did an analysis of the 10-year cost of the new law including assuming the extension of the newly-created or expanded programs that the measure cynically assumes will just go away or be returned to their original size after two years.

As Ryan noted, Reagan told us that there’s nothing so permanent as a temporary government program.

The CBO’s answer:

Extending the programs as they likely will be will increase the budget deficit and our national debt by another $1.7 trillion.

Interest on all this spending, which is not included in the media-reported cost will be another $745 billion.

Therefore, the total cost of this bill over 10 year is $3.27 TRILLION

Yes, the angry cries from fiscal conservatives about the government’s waste of $800 billion of taxpayer money was aimed at a travesty only 1/4 the actual size of what President Obama, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Arlen Specter, and friends just did to us, our children, and future generations.

Best Post of the Day so far on Why the Stimulus Package only Stimulates Government

by | 1:10 pm, February 17, 2009

#redco #stimulus #tcot
From Steven Nielson….The theory is simple – the government injects “stimulus money” into the economy – a series of infrastructure jobs and pet projects – such as an $8 Billion high-speed rail line between LA and Las Vegas (home to Sen. Reid – pet project anyone?), or a bridge to nowhere… Jobs are created for these “shovel ready” jobs… but the money must be taken out of other sectors of the economy – through higher taxation of other individuals – or in our case, ANOTHER DAMNED LOAN FROM CHINA.

The cause of the economic crisis is NOT because government didn’t do enough… it is because government over-regulated, made impossible demands on banks and other sectors, and then waiting for the implosion – so they could swoop in and clean up the mess with “the only solution left – Nationalization”…

Friends, family, and readers alike – I echo the words of Jack Cafferty: “Why am I not surprised? Congress lying to the American people has become part of their job description. They can’t be trusted on anything anymore.” READ THE REST at the New Conservative

In defense of platitudes

by | 11:01 am, February 17, 2009

Platitude:  a banal, trite, or stale remark.

I often hear political commenters dismiss a statement as a mere “platitude.”

Almost always, they are right. The person being dismissed has indeed uttered a platitude.

During a meaningful debate, platitudes are useless. Politics, however, rarely involve meaningful debate.

Barack Obama just got elected on a promise of “hope and change.” How more platitudinous can one get?

“Hope and change” means absolutely nothing. It’s banal. It’s trite. And it has become stale. So what?

It was EFFECTIVE. It still is EFFECTIVE.

The thousands of people that gather to fawn over Obama do not want to hear a lecture on the pros and cons of Keynesian economics. They want to hear about hope and change.

They want to feel good. And there is NOTHING wrong with that.

We that believe in freedom need to learn from the success of the statists.

What slogans can we use? How about “freedom”? How about “liberty for all”?

Are these words platitudes? Yep.

So what? These words represent all that our country was based upon.

Why We Protest Obama And The Stimulus

by | 10:23 am, February 17, 2009

Some of the Colorado MSM finally notices a protest afoot:

“We’re having a rally because we want to point out that there’s another side to this issue, and we want to give some voice to that opposition,” Dick Wadhams, chairman of the Colorado Republican Committee, said.

Critics of the bill plan to voice their opinions at noon on the west steps of the Colorado State Capitol building. The critics, which include Wadhams and a group called Americans for Prosperity, plan to deliver the message to Barack Obama, “You don’t know stimulus.”

“The bottom line…is that this thing is just a massive spending bill, saddling generations with future debt,” Wadhams said. “It does nothing to create jobs in the immediate short term and it’s merely expanding the scope, reach and cost of the federal government.”

Aside from exercising obvious First Amendment rights–we believe that significant opposition to this bill extends beyond partisanship.

We don’t agree with expensive economic boondoggles–a “generational theft act” of dubious long-term benefit.

We don’t agree with the manner in which these measures are forced upon us–mostly through fearmongering and demagoguing.

Oh, and dissent is patriotic, right?
