Michael Huttner: Raging Hypocrite

by | 4:39 pm, February 19, 2009 | 5 Comments

Dear Mr. Huttner:

Since Tuesday’s rally you’ve been all over the media coverage’s comments sections pointing out a protester carrying a sign bearing a swastika.   You’re outraged–OUTRAGED (“Please click the link to my website to see how outraged I am!”)–that anyone sink to the depths of using a swastika to describe your beloved Obama.

Now I don’t know about the rest of the folks reading this, (Please, guys, chime in if I’m wrong) but I’ve spent the last eight years hearing the phrase “nazi” and “facist” thrown around an awful lot.  I’ve grown accustomed to seeing swastikas plastering any sort of signage toted by Progressives, so, when I saw the offending swastika at the rally I thought: “wow, that’s harsh, not exactly my style or in good taste. “  Well, in my naive little head it doesn’t occur to me to attempt to silence those with whom I don’t necessarily agree.  At this point, the swastikas and comparisons to Hitler have been so overly used by “Progressives” that the entire country is completely desensitized to such hateful imagery.  At most, all a lot of us can summon is a blase eye roll.  I suggest that if you find it that offensive, you probably shouldn’t have aligned yourself with a group that screams Nazi every time someone doesn’t agree with them.

This whole unsavory tempest-in-a-teapot, has inspired an epiphany.  Mr. Huttner, I gained insight on your Progressive thought processes.

You demanded an apology.  For what?  It infringes on the constitutional rights of our fellow citizens to prevent them from engaging in legal activities in public places.  (Please note, this wasn’t a “stage”, it was the steps of the capitol building.)

In demanding a collective apology from the organizers, you, Mr. Huttner, revealed that you believe the organizers did something wrong–something that you yourself wouldn’t have done.

To avoid your righteous indignation and apology demands in the future, Mr. Huttner,  what would you have them do?

Should Jon Caldara, Josh Penry and Michelle Malkin have encouraged the attenders of the rally to rip the sign from the man’s grasp, tear it up, throw it to the ground and report him to the thought police?  Perhaps the authorities should have been called to have the fellow detained for questioning then shipped off to a re-education camp? (Too bad Gitmo’s closing.)   Mr. Huttner, would you have been pleased if,  upon seeing the swastika, in a fit of uncontrollable rage the crowd fell upon the bearer of the sign and beat him senseless?

Somehow I believe that any of these things would have pleased you greatly.   These were all things you could gleefully fall upon as proof that anyone who does not agree with your point of view is a fascist and therefore ought be silenced.

Fascist if you do and fascist if you don’t.  How rational.  How bipartisan.  How “Progressive”.

Apparently, the only thing that would please you, Mr. Huttner, is for everyone to agree with your ideas, to repeat in adoration the lily-white edicts that fall from the lips of you and your cohorts.

Thank you for the clarity and insight Mr. Huttner.  Now all that remains in question is the lengths to which you will go to ensure any viewpoint other than your own is permanently silenced.   Thus far you have indulged in blatant hypocrisy and character assassination.  What next?  Blackmail? Threats? Force?

Is there a line you won’t cross?

The irony is that if the opposition is silenced and you have your way . . . your going to find yourself out of a job.

To that end, Mr. Michael Huttner, I sincerely wish you booming business.   All the conspiracy theories you and your ilk made popular with spoiled white art students pretending they live in a totalitarian society instead of one so wealthy and self-assured it can indulge their neurotic fantasies of “oppression” . . . they obviously aren’t true, or Obama wouldn’t have won.  Whoops.

I advocated not over-responding to the attacks, but just referring to MM’s piece and maybe taking a look at the racism the Other Side directs her way. Boy, was I wrong. Nice work, CB.

I’m still waiting for Mr. Huttner’s manufactured outrage over the EXTENSIVE use of Nazi imagery at, for instance, the pro-Hamas counterprotest last month. I’m sure he’ll be along soon to bluster about the blatant and unmistakeable Nazi-motif hate spewed by all the darlings of the “Progressive” [sic] left at local protests over the past year.

This is one reason PPC was created: to document the hypocrisy of the left-wing news outlets here in Colorado. The news outlets eating up Huttner’s grandstanding about the “Obama swastika” are the same ones who very carefully and deliberately avoided showing any swastikas at left-sponsored rallies, and would have almost entirely ignored the pork rally had it not been for this phony controversy.

And just for the record, I don’t condone anyone on the right using Nazi symbols against Obama, either.

Agreed, T.L. My initial reaction was to do as jgm advocated and to let the facts speak for themselves. But then I found something that changed my mind. I’ll let two quotes speak for themselves:

“Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it”
    –Adolf Hitler

“Think of the press as a great keyboard on which the government can play.”
    –Joseph Goebbels

This particular slur against Michelle Malkin and Josh Penry is a lovely example of what I call “Truth by Proclamation”. Say it loudly, say it repeatedly, and if there is no dissent . . . people will accept it as the truth, no matter how ridiculous it is or how many facts indicate it’s wrong.
