Pro-Israel Rally In Denver
by elpresidente | 6:32 pm, January 11, 2009 | 33 Comments
Between 500-700 anti- and pro-Israel folks made their way to the State Capitol, and through the use of speakers and signs, made their voices heard.
There was little confrontation (thankfully), but the emotion was running high on both sides, and police kept everyone off of Lincoln.
There are tons of photos after the break, and fellow PPCers will update throughout the evening with more photos and video.

The Nazi flag echoed a common theme seen throughout the afternoon.

There was a clear police presence, but most of their duty consisted of keeping protesters out of the street.

The anti-war crowd joined in–but it is the sign across the street that is most poignant.

Blue skies and a crisp wind–and shouts of “Allahu Akbar!”

This would be the most dominant theme: Israel = Nazis.

The messaging, at the very least, was consistent.

Native Americans = Palestinians, and a somewhat clever sign.

And that is look the other way.

Tom Tancredo “nuke Mecca” comment earned pushback from this protester.

There were several hundred on both sides.

Zionism = Nazism, plus bonus misspelled “Gazza.”

An Israeli flag, carried by the wind, is filled by the sun’s luminescence.

Wait, I thought it was all Israel’s fault!

Standard stuff for this type of rally.

A pro-Israeli woman glances at the protesters on the other side of the street.

Dead baby on a stick, and a personification of “Palestine” surrounded by missiles.

Looks like we have the truth, at least, in this sign.

A beautiful day for free speech in Denver.

OK, Godwin’s Law and all that. They lose. On the other hand:

You were expecting, “Thank-ya Jesus!” maybe? They are Muslims, you know. And this is what they say.
They (Jews Against Zionism) always show up.
OK, so? You think all Jews are *for* Zionism? If so, I have news for you. Some of them are even *conservative*.
An Israeli flag, carried by the wind, is filled by the sun’s luminescence.
You know, my nylon Confederate flag does the *same exact thing* when I look at the sun through it. Rum thing, that.
Looks like we have the truth, at least, in this sign. (“We will never accept the Israel state.”)
I guess the Zionists never considered that possibility when they muscled into the region way back when. Who knew!?
January 11th, 2009 @ 7:57 pm
Your perspective is noted.
January 11th, 2009 @ 8:29 pm
The root to this problem is that the palestinians land was illegaly seized from them in 1948. Your damn straight that we will NEVER accept Israel. The conflict would be over if Israel gave the Palestinians their land back, or at the very least, would stop building new Israeli settlements, and let the Palestinian people control their own lives. Instead, Israel decides when they get clean water, food, even electriciy.
11 Israeli deaths to almost 900 Palestinian deaths is NOT self defense, it is ethnic cleansing!
If Israel was exclusively killing Hamas soldiers that would be one thing, but they are NOT. They are killing innocent children, women, and men!
Is the killing of civilians in the name of war not a war crime?
How is Isreal any different than the nazzis considering their current actions?
January 11th, 2009 @ 10:11 pm
Then what you have is an impasse. You do not accept Israel, and Israel will not allow itself to be attacked by Hamas and other terrorist organizations.
If you can’t distinguish between Israel and the Nazis then that is your issue.
January 11th, 2009 @ 10:31 pm
Oh, I don’t know that it’s an impasse, El Presidente. The Israelis are currently aborting and contracepting themselves into oblivion. The Palestinians, on the other hand, are living in accordance with the Divine Mandate (“Be fruitful and multiply. . . .”). Combine this with a war-weariness that seems to afflict Western cultures more quickly than they do Islamic culture, and I bet whatever “impasse” appears to exist now won’t so appear down the road. I discuss this some in the blog entry I linked in my comment above.
January 11th, 2009 @ 10:32 pm
“than it does” Islamic culture.
January 11th, 2009 @ 11:23 pm
BS You are being hoodwinked.
It is documented by the Romans that the ancient HEbrews were forcibly revmoved by the Romans and outsiders brought in. Hence those calling themselves natives are in fact colonizers. It is also a fact that the Bible that many people read speaks of Israel as the Jewish homeland.
It is also a fact that many of the middle eastern countries were artifical creations of colonial powers, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait among others but most importantly Jordan which was part of ancient Israel. So Israeli connection to the land has been documented and ongoing for thousands of years. Would any other religion be asked to gie up its birthplace as the Israelis are for Hebron, the Catholics, the BHuddists, eastern Orthodox, Mecca, Medina. Are churches even allowed in Saudi Arabia, or other Islamic states? How do you think they would feel if the Catholics built a shrine in Mecca, or the Bhuddists in Medina?
Jordan was considered to be part of Palestine before it was given the name Jordan. The Arabs got over 80% of Palestine and then the remainder between the Jordan river and the Mediterranean wa split. 90% -10% hardly seems fair. Israel did not start the war in 1948. WHen else has the defensive victor of a war given back land it obtained , US in California? Russia in Europe? China in Tibet? Fance and Germany in their many wars, Spaniards in South AMerica? What absolute bullshit hypocisy!
What about child soldiers? WHen this is done anywhere else it is considered a war crime, when the Palestinians do it no one bats an eyelash, How can you people look at yourselves in the mirror without puking? You are supporting the true war criminals? Who else puts bunkers below hospitals?
Furthermore comparisons etween Israel and the Nazis is repulsive. The Nazis preached hate based on race or ethnicities including Jews, homosexuals, minorities, etc. They killed millions of people who bore them no ill will. The Israelis are in a constant war against a frightfully biased world of people who are religiously intolerant towards your religions. The two aren’t comparable in anyway except that those who support the hatemongers are equally being fooled as certain people; Kennedy and Lindbergh, as well as nations the British and Russians for example were early in WWII.
How many of you know that over 100 or so years ago Bagdhad had a massive Jewish population over 30% of the city, now there are almost none, THAT IS ETHNIC CLEANSING.
Western culture is doomed if it will glibly accept the lies and distortions of the hatemongers. Its memory is so short. It is not long ago that Islam was invading Europe from the west Spain and from the East. Last time it was a military invasion that xtended over many years. Now it is a cultural invasion over a shorter time period.
FInally one should not forget that no country has done well with the Arabs, not England, not France (ALgeria), not Russia (Egypt) and the US has bone OK. That is all that can be hoped for. They operate under different premises from the standpoint of land ownership hence endless conflicts, culture hence religious intolerance, hatemongering hence numerous internal conflicts remember the Iran Iraq war not to mention the thousands of innocent civilians killed by homicide bombers. Whether Israel is there or not will not civilize this uncivilizable culture. DOn’t be fooled it is only a ruse to weaken Israel. THen it will be some other conflict. What are you people thinking. Wake up.
January 11th, 2009 @ 11:33 pm
TO the person commenting on civilian casualties:
If you are so committed why aren’t you up in arms about suicide homicide bombings/
Using child soldiers is a war crime?
Targeting unarmed civilians through missles and human carried bombs is also a warcrime.
SOunds like you are so biased as to not be taken seriously, confused, hypocritical or in need of a change in point of view.

Wow, this is really shocking! There’s no snow in Denver in January! How can this be? Beyond belief! Maybe these pictures are, dare I say, FAKED?
January 12th, 2009 @ 10:08 am
“ExDem in Mich,” I HOPE you’re being sarcastic/satirical/ironic/witty—since there are lots of times there’s no snow on the ground in Denver in January.
“Free Palestine,” the reason innocent Palestinian civilians are being killed is that Hamas terrorists have taken them hostage, FORCING them into schools and hospitals and day-care centers where Hamas is launching its missiles from–so that when the Israelis justifiably strike back at the launching sites of the missiles, they will end up taking down a bunch of civilians, too. Hamas doesn’t give a flying f*** about the lives of innocent Arab civilians. All they are interested in is the public-relations battle in the media, where they can go running and crying “look what those nasty, inhuman Jews did!” The Israelis have been dropping flyers beforehand at the target areas, WARNING civilians of upcoming attacks so they can get out of the area. Hell, the IDF has even organized massive PHONE CALLING efforts, calling civilians in Gaza to warn them to get out. In the whole history of mankind, NOBODY has ever fought a war this way, with this much effort to protect enemy civilians.
Grow up or shut up.
January 12th, 2009 @ 5:02 pm
There were Jewish people on the Palestinin side as well. I was there. I met them. i was particualrly shocked when i heard Tancredo shout “Nuke Mecca.” that is truly disturbing, when a so called peaceful group talks like that. The killings need to stop on both sides, but what Israel has done, by basically caging the Palestinians in Gaza, is unaacceptable. 40% of the people are Gaza are under 14 years of age. 33% are malnourished, over half children under three are anemic. Israel has been controlling what supplies get into these people. SHAME ON ISRAEL!!! Several from the Israel side were trying to entice us to come over nad get into face to face screa ming matches and fights. They were actually playing the song CELEBRATION.
January 12th, 2009 @ 5:15 pm
Oh, yes, yesterday was a beautiful day. Today, there’s a good six inches of snow on the ground. Go figure.
We’re still trying to figure out what those people were celebrating.
Where do you expect these innocent people to go? It’s a crowded stip of land, 1.5 million crammed into 175 square miles?
January 12th, 2009 @ 5:20 pm
33% of children are malnourished Tim? That’s surprising since it doesn’t look like any Hamas soldiers are malnourished. It appears that the government over there cares more about its feeding soldiers and war than it does feeding the children.
January 12th, 2009 @ 6:05 pm
to “truthforall” i dont know where you got the idea that i was in support of the suicide bombers. They are completely wrong, to take the lives of random innocent people in coffee shops, shopping centers etc. is WRONG! i never said it wasnt. Israel AND Hamas have BOTH been wrong (now and in the past). The issue right now is about Israel claiming “self defense” when the numbers are 11 Israeli deaths to over 900 Palestinian deaths (45% women & children). That is NOT self defense, that is a straigt up massacre. And regardless of what people are calling this conflict ( genocide, holocaust, ethnic cleansing) doesnt change the fact the innocent people are dying on BOTH sides. The killings need to stop on BOTH sides, Israeli casualties are just as important and a loss as
Palestinian casualties, but the numbers are nowehere near comparison. And WHY these numbers are so drastically different is what needs to be addressed.
To “Kathy from Kansas” wow, the fact that you think Hamas would take its own people (the very people they are fighting for) hostage is a joke! If they killed all their people, then there would be nothing and no one to fight for. The reason for their actions, is because of the attrocities that the Israeli army has committed against them. Im NOT saying at all that their actions are justified, im just saying your “theory” is ridiculous. Flyers? Phone calls? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?????? Where are they supposed to go to “get out of the area” when Israel has locked ALL the entrances/exits to Gaza?! and how are they supposed to get phone calls when Israel has cut off their electricity??!?!?! It is truly amazing that you really believe that crap. Dont believe everything the media tells you. This government is in support of Isreal, so the media will slant the truth.
We need a cease fire NOW! and we need Israel AND Hamas to get it together. We ALL need to realize that killing people NEVER accomplishes anything, but lives lost. It just keeps promoting this endless cycle of retaliation. May God help as ALL!!!!

I was particualrly shocked when i heard Tancredo shout “Nuke Mecca.”
Got video or audio? Or are you just making that up?
January 13th, 2009 @ 12:22 am
I was there, I think he’s making it up, T.L.
January 13th, 2009 @ 1:04 am
Aha, I think I know what he’s talking about – Tom Tancredo’s
speculation on what would constitute an effective deterrent to Islamic terrorists using weapons
of mass destruction against the US. Tim has apparently forgotten that “Mutually Assured Destruction”
was the governing doctrine of deterrence against the Soviet Union throughout much of the Cold War.
Hmm…on the other hand, Tim explicitly claims that he was there (at the rally) and that he
himself personally “heard Tancredo shout ‘nuke Mecca’”. Absent proof, I’m gonna have to say that that
claim is a blatant lie.
How about it, Tim? Got proof?
January 13th, 2009 @ 5:51 am
Tom Tancredo definitely said ‘nuke Mecca’ i was there also. It doesnt matter if you believe it or not, if you just listen to some of the things that he has to say about this conflict it will echo that. these politicians are supposed to be the smart senseful ones, however, that is rarely EVER the case.
and unfortunately i dont go walking around with my voice recorder to catch politicians saying extremely insensitive things, so no, i dont have proof either.
January 13th, 2009 @ 9:23 am
Sorry, denver native, I’m not buying your “fake but accurate” claim.
If he actually said it, then hundreds of people heard it, including the local press (mainstream and alternative). It would have been all over the news Sunday night.
Without proof, it’s clear you’re lying.
And I’m also not buying your interpretation of the things he DID say in the past. I looked at those old comments, and unless I missed something that was especially incendiary, it’s clear to me he’s talking about a doctrine of deterrence and not the nihilistic destruction-for-its-own-sake that terrorist groups favor.
January 13th, 2009 @ 8:26 pm
Truthforall Thank you for sharing. Very true. Wish all those who are ignorant would read their history. By calling Israel Nazis is disgusting, insulting. The Nazis were one of the most evil people in history. Israel was pushed and couldnt take it anymore. The media and crap like some of the pictures above are on not showing the casualities in Israel. Sure media says over 900 civilians in Gaza were killed and only few in Israel most Israeli soldieres, what about the casualties of Israeli civilians by suicide bombers or the rockets by the Hamas, (the real terrorists, and another evil group)? There are some soldiers who Im sure have take to extreme by attacking some civilians or in other words taking action like the Hamas. That is wrong too. But its a few soldiers vs a large group of terrorists. I am Pro-Israel, but I will end this by saying that this war needs to stop on both parts. However, Hamas first needs to seize fire and stop the rockets and raids they have been sending over to Israel for the last couple of years.

Regaring my comment No. 1 above. I see some clever fellow has edited my tinyurl link. It now links to a Pajamas Media blog entry on Hamas and the Nazis. It originally linked to this:

Your editing my link only serves to buttress what I told you over at your “Manifesto”: your claims there are obviously bogus.
Go ahead and delete this comment, if you will. I’ve saved the entire discussion for posterity, if you catch my drift.

“I’ve saved the entire discussion for posterity, if you catch my drift.”
Ooh. Sounds like a threat.
January 17th, 2009 @ 11:36 am
Naw, no “threat.” I wuz jus’ gonna use it to publicly embarrass y’all, that it, t’ show everyone how small-minded y’all are. But I’ve concluded, especially when I read your posts Mr. James, that y’all are just flat too stupid ‘n morally deficient t’ be embarrassed. The ability t’ be embarrased requires th’ ability to understand when one has been shamed ‘n the moral compass t’ be shamed about it.
‘N I see you’ve turned off th’ comments at th’ Manifesto page. Which means your cowardly too.
January 17th, 2009 @ 1:31 pm
Um. Snaggle-Tooth? I think it’s because there was a directive to take the discussions to the posts? Which are still open.
You’re trying to hard. Seriously. to report, one states what the saw. so when it says
‘Blue skies and a crisp wind–and shouts of “Allahu Akbar!”’ . . .
that’s a statement of fact, reported for those who were not there. it does not characterize the shouts of allahu akbar as angry or otherwise, it is simply a statement of existence.
Likewise, the Israeli flag is, in fact, illuminated by the sun. It seems foolish to me that you expect anyone to include in the caption “a behavior that all flags made of the same material display when held up before the sun.”
The exceptions you take with these two items are of a kind that make you look a little . . . desperate and paranoid. Seriously. Save your vitriol for something that deserves it, otherwise ya come off as a loony, the delusional guy at the back of the bus screaming a response to one of the imaginary voices in his head.
Finally, as to the truthfulness of the sign . . .the excuse the U.N. and most pro-Palestine folks indulging in Orwellian doublethink make to allow Palestinians to continue there quest for an individual nation . . . is that the Palestinian leaders claim, publicly, at least, to want peace with Israel, and just a humble plot of ‘o’ land to call their own. But people like you and the sign bearer above know it’s all just a big lie to milk western sympathies. *nudge nudge wink wink*

Oops, sorry agin: I misread ye. I thot you had sed the comments thar at th’ “Manifesto” were still open. So they is closed, like I thot.

I giss I’ll also say that if’n ye thank th’ Israeli-Palestinian struggle is all-att simple, well, I invite ye to join th’ discussion here [Link] , at my my blog, or at the Rocky Mountain News (seach “gaza”), cuz it’s damn sure th’ case-att no intelligent discussion is a-gonna occur here at PPC.
