Amendment 47, 49, and 54 Lies Just Keep Coming.

A faithful People’s Press Collective reader forwarded us another misleading mailer sent out by Protect Colorado’s Culture of Corruption Future.
These Heroes Don’t Need Capes, so why has Protect Colorado’s Future put these true heroes in costumes?

From Protect Colorado’s Future’s original No on Amendment 47, 49, and 54 scanned mailer, a commentor noted that the officer in the picture wasn’t wearing an “official” police badge. Protect Colorado’s Future dressed him up in an officer-looking costume. What is it that Protect Colorado’s Future is trying to hide? Why is Protect Colorado’s Future trying to trick voters? I have at least as much, and likely more, respect for Colorado’s public employees who keep us safe, but something about Protect Colorado’s Future’s mailers don’t add up to me.
The only thing about this ad that’s true is that Colorado’s officers, firefighters, and EMTs are true heroes. It’s too bad that Protect Colorado’s Future thinks they can dress these real heroes up in costumes.
First Protect Colorado’s Future dresses real public employees up in costumes, then they outright lie to Colorado voters about Colorado amendments on the ballot, and now they’re back to putting Colorado’s heroes in costumes? Why won’t Protect Colorado’s Future just be honest with voters? Why are they using such sketchy tactics?

It’s awfully easy to accuse the BLS of fudging the numbers for political purposes, especially since an improving economy is likely to improve Obama’s chances for a second term. But honesty requires that we look more closely at those numbers.

I don’t know about capes, but all but Gloria Martinez look like they could use a good laxative.
I think it’s pretty simple what they’re trying to do, give people the IMPRESSION of an official
police or firefighter endorsement by using carefully devised look-alike uniforms. Oh sure, if you look
close (with a magnifying glass) you can find telltale signs that they aren’t “real” uniforms (Shaw’s FOP
badge for example), but PCF is betting on the visual first impression and the tendency of people NOT to look
that closely. They expect people to look at it and think “Firefighters and cops are officially against 47,
49, and 54!” not “A couple of cops and firefighters wearing look-alike cop and firefighter uniforms
on their own time are individualy against 47, 49, and 54.”
It’s dishonest. And the ad doesn’t even say anything about the amendments. They might as well
be mailing around glossy brochures with pictures of cute frolicking puppies under big red letters proclaiming
“These amendments will force Colorado to repave I-70 with dog fur!”. It’d be about as honest and
informative.

You guys are being a bit ridiculous, frankly. While I may not agree with their position, they’re not using “fake” badges or uniforms… they’re using an FOP badge because you can’t use police officer badges or other insignia that identifies an individual department on a political mailer or in a commercial. It’s just like how military isn’t supposed to do political things in uniform. Attack them on the merits of their argument, not for a cop or firefighter following the rules of their own department.

“Attack them on the merits of their argument…” Unfortunately, they have no argument. Unless you count fear and deception as arguments.
Your point, though, is well-taken. It would be illegal under Colorado law for them to endorse or oppose ballot initiatives in their official capacity as a government employee (i.e., in uniform).

“they’re using an FOP badge because you can’t use police officer badges or other insignia that identifies an individual department on a political mailer or in a commercial.”
That was my point, Ryan. They take pains to make the people in the ads LOOK official, so that the voters who see the ads and don’t look at them closely will draw the conclusion that they ARE taking an official position on the issue, as a profession rather than as individuals. While making it just clear enough to the careful observer that the insignia, etc. aren’t “real” (FOP badge vs. a real police badge) to cover their backsides in case anyone calls them on it. They know exactly what they’re doing with this.

This site is a crook. These three admendments take away the rights of public employees to organize and advocate for their benefit. These admendments are the work of out of state big donors working with a handfull of in state wing-nuts to take away the peoples right to organize. Vote NO on 47, 49 and 54!!!!!!!
