Universal preschool: Worse than just a waste of taxpayer money

I offer for your enjoyment and education this excellent article by Lisa Snell of Reason in which she discusses the results of a new study about the (non-)impact of state-run pre-kindergarten programs.
Please see More Evidence that Universal Preschool Doesn’t Offer Lasting Benefits
By second grade the benefits of one of the nation’s ‘best’ universal pre-K programs are gone

Universal pre-K is one of the more insidious ideas of Nanny State liberals, not simply because it’s extremely expensive, and not simply because it will have the effect of coercing more parents to get their kids into government schools earlier, but also because one of the main unspoken goals is to force pre-K programs to employ only teachers who are union members.
It’s obvious that liberals don’t care about quality of education, especially for low-income kids. If they cared, they wouldn’t fight vouchers, charter schools, and merit pay as aggressively as they do. No, their real motivation is to do everything possible to increase the membership of teachers’ unions, some of the Democrats most reliable funding sources.

Of course not! Why would anyone conclude that errors are geographical? Errors are errors and attempts to reinflate the British economy using the same hot air compressors that we use here aren’t going to work any better over there than they have here.
